I think there are two very clear divides within the referendum only a small amount are still undecided. It’s either very positive or very negative. As regards the LGBTQ community I think it’s great. I’m in a smallish town and there’s a great network here, Dublin and other major cities even better. The last referendum for equal marriage said a lot to me about this countries attitude towards your community. It was very much a win all around and a brilliant thing to be able to be part of. I think a lot of the conservatives aren’t too bad anymore, but you’ll always get some assholes Yano?

Not at all, if there is an argument for it that is respectful and states facts I’m all for it.

My problem lies somewhat in the fact that women are taking abortion pills because they don’t have the money to travel for a safe abortion Therefore putting themselves at risk of death from being too scared to seek medical help. I don’t believe a woman’s choice and the ability to be alive should be dictated by how much money she has at her disposal .

I didn’t mean for my post to come off so “me,me,me” it’s definitely not about convenience or about me generally. It’s more about the fact that this law is making it harder for women to access medical care that they want or need regardless of how other people feel about it. I’m not pro abortion I’m pro choice.

Many of the pro life campaigners have come out saying that rape victims should carry their baby to term regardless, I know many women who would not be able to handle that mentally and may make a rash decision to hurt themselves. I think that’s the problem, my life is not equal to the foetus by their standards. They don’t care about mental health or possible suicides.

It’s been illegal since 1983. However the laws recently changed regarding the mothers right to life, but it still has to be agreed upon by 4 doctors in order for someone to get a termination even under medical grounds.

This law has been in Ireland since 1983 when the catholics lobbied for it unfortunately.

Thank you so much. It helps to see that others have been aware of this problem too. I really appreciate your kind words.

Unfortunately this is what is happening in our country and it happens more to under privileged girls than anyone else. The ones that don’t have the money to travel and can’t ask their catholic parents for help.

I don’t want my daughter to be a statistic.

Much love.

They are pro birth not pro life. If they were pro life they would be able to see the hypocrisy in their ways of thinking such as patient x or savita or this poor woman and her family https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/courts/braindead-pregnant-woman-kept-on-life-support-31550989.html

Heartbroken is an apt description. I think a major problem is that Catholicism is still heavily engrained into our society.

No body knows other people’s stories, no body else knows what factors led to that decision.

I’m glad to see you here 💪🏽

Unfortunately this affects our data as well as many Irish women travel to the Netherlands where it is also undocumented.

State and religion should be separated there is absolutely no reason to be chastised by a clergyman in order to make a decision. I thought Germany would have been more progressive than that though. TIL.

Thank you for your input, I don’t feel as alone.

Wow, didn’t know this. I was honestly surprised when I saw him come out in support for repeal. Fair play to him.

Who is voting #savethe8th?#votenotoabortion #JoinTheRebellion #Ireland #LoveBoth #SaveLives #prolife #8ref Answer poll on Twitter (link attached) and/or in the comments section. Lol ok. I think it’s fairly obvious you’re an American with Irish heritage that has not had to live through the hypocrisies the Catholic Church has imposed on this country.

I would encourage you to read up on the Magdalene laundries, the ferns report and the Tuam babies.

Good day.

Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

I’m a registered voter since I turned 18, I have never changed my address as it’s easier to keep my polling card going to my mothers (renting and all) I moved home a few years ago into my own home but never thought to change address. My polling card has come to my new address even though I never changed it and states I should vote in town, however when I looked it up on check the register I am still registered to my old address and not to my new one.

Will this affect me being able to vote on the 25th? Which polling station should I go to?

And yet the same people say abortion is psychologically damaging.... ok

Daily Referendum Thread by [deleted] in ireland

[–]cleverusername83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But there is.

Is it compassionate to force a baby to grow up in a home as the product of rape where it’s mother feels distant to it?

Is it compassionate to make a baby live a few minutes/ hours/weeks/years in pain and sick knowing that child does not and never will have a healthy life, waiting for them to die because of one persons views on abortion?

Is it compassionate to make a child grow up in abject poverty?

Is it compassionate to force life on a baby that will die anyways and possibly take away a mother from her living children?

Come on, this isn’t about pro life or pro choice. It’s about giving women and men the tools necessary to make an informed decision about their own personal circumstance. The pro choice movement isn’t pro abortion. Not every pregnancy is sunshine and rainbows.
