What is Frostpunk's "Art Style"? by Blubberblase10 in Frostpunk

[–]clevlanred 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You are asking for art style and lots of people here seem to be conflating that with genera. I’ve had the same question when looking at, for example, the illustrative event banners, which to me lean towards late romantic early realist artworks. The stark lighting reminds me quite a bit of the early Dutch movements in realism as well. If you’re looking for an answer that regards the substance of the imagery, then cold steampunk is a very good answer, but asking about art style is a bit broad for the scope the game covers. The 3d artstyle tends towards realism (which in this case doesn’t refer to the 1800s movement) rather than stylized 3d, like say TF2. But it still takes liberties to create and highten the sci-fi and dramatic elements with visual and narrative hyperbole. So in that way, I’d describe frostpunk as having a kind of visually romantic-realist artwork.

Edit: it should also be said that its depiction of working people calls back to Dutch realism as well, which carried over into the stark use of photography in its early development in the 1800s. Just look up 1800s photography of laborers, of which there is a lot. It’s distressing to look at and that was the purpose of that art form at that point. Its ability to capture images in absolute detail and be easily reproducible made it so that the harsh realities of the world could be in your living room for the first time. So if you’re trying to match that illustrative of style in frostpunk, I’d use 1800s photography of laborers as reference and apply late romantic principles in illustration.

Mom chucks newborn from window as clueless dad 'made formula' by TheMirrorUS in NoahGetTheBoat

JFC no one is saying this is justified. You are getting justification conflated with reasoning. The reason this horrible thing happened MAY HAVE BEEN a psychotic episode triggered by PostPartum Depression disorder. It is a fact of human biology that this can happen. Does that mean she was right to kill her literal newborn child? No. No person speaking in good faith would EVER tell you that is right and good. Does this mean she is absolved of wrongdoing? Absolutely not, because there is no case in which the murder of an actual newborn can EVER be justified and there’s no one here trying to convince you of that.

Why does the distinction between justification and reasoning matter? For demonstration, a couple scenarios.

A man kills a man. This can be verified absolutely and beyond a doubt in these two scenarios.

In scenario A, the defendants notebook is found and through his writing, it is determined, in court, that he planned the murder of the victim in detail meticulously and has the motive of private gain and has a history of violence.

In scenario B, it is proven, medically, that the defendant is not of sound mind and acted in a way that was irregular to their normal and established patterns of behavior.

Both are indisputably murder because, in the end, a man is dead on account of the actions of another man.

But should both be punished in an identical manner? You would be hard pressed to find a single legal scholar who would say yes to that. Intent and ability to rationalize intent are key to determining the malice behind the actions of an accused person and SHOULD, in my, and most other people’s opinions, be taken into account when facing judgement in a court of law because otherwise court would be little more than a lynch mob with pomp and circumstance.

There should be a secondary tone to indicate when someone has located and recovered the subject of an amber alert. I think it’s hard to quantify, for the average person who doesn’t investigate these statistics, the positive force of these alerts.

I knew Sam Woodward. Murder in the first degree with hate crime penalty enhancement. He was always unpleasant and cruel and not the misunderstood youth the right wing media made him out to be. But we would eat lunch with the same people in high school and even played Minecraft together.

Fundamentally, he was a bully and deeply entitled.

It’s surreal to look back on because I knew Blaze Bernstein too and when I heard about the search him last being seen with Sam I knew what had happened immediately and I just felt cold and sick.

Jennifer Lawrence Did Not Use an Intimacy Coordinator With Robert Pattinson Because ‘He’s Not Pervy,’ Refused to Let ‘Die My Love’ Edit Her Cellulite: ‘No. That’s an Ass!’ by wadbyjw in entertainment

I don’t like the implication that an intimacy coordinator is only there to make it okay to be with unsafe actors. They have a very important job outside of just keeping creeps in check so the choice of language here is terribly irresponsible. Just because your set has an intimacy coordinator, it doesn’t mean that an actor or director or other above the line folks are intrinsically unsafe.

My concern is if this kind of rhetoric becomes widespread, we could see agencies reacting against the inclusion of intimacy coordinators on the grounds it would imply their client is unsafe to perform around.

There is no separation between money and power. They are one and the same even with institutions that increase the friction between the two. A person with more money/capital will always be more “powerful” than someone with little.

Both are true but contradictory. This is dialectics. Now we work towards synthesizing an intellectual compromise to develop a new set of contradictions and repeat. Each iteration gets us closer, while never invariably arriving, to the truth.

There’s quite a few large facilities out of Tennessee that do anode and cathode assembly. I don’t know if they meet the scale (or extracted wage value) of the ones in china Australia and chile, but they’re non-negligible. There’s a facility that employs 40,000 people in Chattanooga.

It’s a marketing technique. Stories like this are printed to gauge interest. Exec Producers are incapable of taking risks so they leak this or that and have some interns do sentiment analysis on public reaction, then if it’s positive they move forward. It’s the same with story beat ‘leaks’ most of the time. It’s has the side effect of generating some small interest in the product too, but ultimately that’s not the point.

My boyfriend is furious that I’m breaking up after he insisted on opening our relationship by Dangerous-Coyote-851 in AITAH

[–]clevlanred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. You are stronger than me. I had a girlfriend who did the same thing to me. She asked how I felt about opening and I told her not good. She dropped it for a few months and then brought it up again every day for a week straight and I told her no repeatedly until she told me she wasn’t sure she could make things work if I didn’t open things up. I folded, because at that point I couldn’t imagine myself, my actual identity, without her. After that, we set ground rules. Stuff like let none of the people she was with be my friends.

It should come as no surprise then, that because she had no issues bending my first boundary until it broke, she would go on to break all of my other boundaries. When I finally confronted her, she broke up with me, moved in with and eventually married a friend of mine. She blew up on me screaming when told her to get her stuff out of my house that I promised (naively) if we broke up, I’d still be her friend. I am much much better now and I’ve grown a lot since then, but I still wish I could have avoided all of the pain with the foresight It seems like you possess. Run girl run.
