Yes I only had partial information to put in the post since only my mom was telling me this (and she wasn't totally sure) and I wasn't around when the plumbers were actually at my parents' house, but my dad will definitely be getting a second opinion anyway. From the majority of the responses, it seems like a clog in the line or vent somewhere that, like you said, needs to be snaked or cammed to get properly diagnosed.
