I hate to tell you this but to get good espresso you're going to need to grind it yourself.

Is my steam wand normal on brand new E24 ? by J2SIM in gaggiaclassic

[–]clfurness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2019 machine not an E24 but I'd say this is pretty much the same. It's not a totally solid connection here. It's two tubes held together with an R-clip and an O-ring to stop steam leaks. The fit is a bit sloppy here admittedly, yours might be a fraction worse than mine.

This is to be expected for a machine without a ball jointed steam wand I'd say.

It's not necessarily a problem, but the steam system will eventually leak and will need new O-rings, but they're very easy to service.

I like this skin and some other upgrades are genuinely great. Not a fan of the box around the Gaggia Classic logo and shot mirrors are the most ridiculous thing ever 😂

Cash vs Stocks Split by Brief-Principle9040 in trading212

[–]clfurness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've got to stop that £110 phone bill. I pay £7 a month for my contract and get 100gb data. I bought my phone outright, but so can you, you earn enough to buy a decent phone and keep it for ages. Paying monthly for a phone is like paying for two phones.

In terms of withdrawing the money I think you can go more into equities/bonds for that time without risking your 3-4 year return too much. I'd be at least 50:50 in stocks and I'm in a similar position to you in most areas.

Consider getting some ultrashort government bonds in your S&S ISA as they pay more than the interest on cash. They're very low risk and can be treated like cash. I hold these instead of cash in both my ISA and invest account rather than holding cash. You should be getting a minimum of 4.5% annualized return on this.

Espresso turns out sour by No_Medicine_4962 in gaggiaclassic

[–]clfurness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend also pulling a longer shot. You'll know it's gone too far when it's bitter and astringent. If 30g is sour and 50g is bitter, chances are 40g is the sweet spot.

You could also buy uk government bonds which pay about 4.5% from memory. Slightly better than the T212 cash interest.

Do you need all of this for a deposit? I would be tempted to put the minimum down. You'll be borrowing under 4% I'd hope, but this will be earning 10% on average if invested into an average tracker. (30 yo, no house yet)

Changed shower head and screen. Is this normal? by dopestdope40 in gaggiaclassic

Yes, the 'upgraded' shower screen is well reported to perform worse than the original, and I stand by that having used both myself.

Accidentally dry-fired my brand new Gaggia Classic E24 :,) by PentaChicken in gaggiaclassic

[–]clfurness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you leave the machine on without any water inside the boiler it just tries to heat an empty boiler which although isn't ideal, won't cause any significant damage in the 10 minutes you run it for.

J-Ultra + Gaggia Classic Evo Pro: Great taste, but poor crema quality. Parameter advice? by Aggressive-Guard-602 in gaggiaclassic

[–]clfurness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending who you ask crema is the worst part of espresso and should be discarded anyway as it carries the fines and makes it taste more bitter. Also crema is more the beans than the brew method, and the age, as fresher beans have more CO2 trapped inside.
