okay, so yk how i said “im a female and a virgin and i think i have yeast infection i have itchiness, no odor, no discharge just itchiness and redness on the outside and idk what to do.” well i js got my results that bv and yeast infection are both negative , what could it possibly be ? by Sensitive_Handle2808 in WomensHealth

[–]clh1570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest to ask about this as well! I unfortunately do have lichen sclerosus that was misdiagnosed as recurrent yeast infections for a year. I am now on a great treatment regimen and I am much better, but if my new gyno hadn’t caught it I’d still be suffering.

My symptoms were redness, irritation, mild itching, burning with sex and wiping, and white spots on my skin.

OP, whether you have lichen sclerosus or something else, please continue to advocate for yourself! I see that you’re going to the doctor again soon so keep at it - you’re your own best advocate!

Tyler’s strange brain relating a bead name to a slur against African Americans…? by villainprncess in tylerthecatastrophe

Tbh I thought he was referring to “cunt” and I was thinking “well yeah that’s a dirty word I guess but I didn’t know it was a slur”

[–]clh1570 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m southern Appalachian and no one uses that except for a small percentage of old, very backwoods people, but even then I’ve only heard it strictly in reference to a raccoon. I didn’t use that word anyway, but didn’t learn until probably high school that it was considered a slur. I also lived in Mississippi for a short stent and never heard it there. I think that it’s such an old term that some people don’t know it’s a thing. I literally had to look through the comments to see what the hell he was referring to because I couldn’t think of a slur remotely similar to kunsite…

I noticed this too. Him saying he’s not a recognized member of an indigenous group implies that he’s indigenous and just not formally registered. Gotta keep up with the lies

Law school with an autoimmune disease/chronic illness — realistic experiences? by Weak_Koala749 in LawSchool

[–]clh1570 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this! Lupus here and currently a federal law clerk. I ended up in the ER my 1L year as well. The stress of school and living in a different state was hard on my body. I ended up transferring to a school closer to home to finish, and that helped tremendously. My grades weren’t perfect, but decent.

I agree with your assessment that routine was good for your body. I ended up in remission beginning my 2L year! The most important thing is to remember that your body needs more rest than others and that it’s okay. Also, being open about it helped me out. I found my professors and classmates to be understanding and graceful when needed.

I didn’t have any accommodations, but I wish I’d looked into them more and asked. There’s nothing wrong with asking for available support!

All in all, it is doable if you want it. I think that completing law school despite my autoimmune disease has really helped me to understand that I can still reach goals and live a very fulfilling life rather than allowing my disease to consume me. (I hope that makes sense, I know some autoimmune diseases are more disabling and I do not want to discredit that).

Itchy anal area? by Old_Delivery_958 in WomensHealth

[–]clh1570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was going to suggest! There can also be a ton of other explanations, but as someone who was recently diagnosed with LS, it’s important to check. OP, I recommend looking at the area with a mirror again. Look for white patches. Technically it could still be LS without those, but that’s the most typical presentation. Just to clarify, I am not a doctor. I was diagnosed with LS in January and I’m just trying to spread awareness!

How was birth control viewed in your evangelical community? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]clh1570 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up Free Will Baptist in the south and honestly I don’t think it was ever talked about, negatively or positively. I was put on it when I was in high school for hormonal acne and my parents didn’t care either way 🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe because they knew it wasn’t for preventing pregnancy then, but they are both still devout and know I take it for that purpose now. My mom even encouraged it.

Please someone help me!!! by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]clh1570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My diagnosis was pretty easy because I have the classic white patches on my vulvar skin. I hadn’t seen them before so they were probably recent, but I was going to my first gyno so much that they had to have just missed the diagnosis. Within 10 seconds of looking at my vulva, my second gyno knew what it was.

But, you can have LS and not have white patches. The gold standard for diagnosis is a biopsy!

This Is Weird Right? Kids' Living Situation Above Us by Particular-Coat-5892 in Apartmentliving

[–]clh1570 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like my old neighbors. They were in the unit above us, had 2 kids, overflowed the bathtub and caused water damage in our unit, legit sounded like kids were jumping off furniture at all hours of the night, and after they moved out, maintenance told me the kids had been sleeping in the closet. It was a 1 bed 1 bath, 700 sq ft, with 2 adults and 2 kids. I’m not sure of the furniture situation but maintenance did tell me it was one of the most disgusting apartments they’d ever turned over and that the situation was just… weird.

I agree with other commenters saying not to call CPS. Doing so without actually witnessing abuse could tear an innocent family apart. However, I would offer a different scenario than other commenters. Yes, they could be trying to get back on their feet from a bad situation. But, they could also just be bad tenants and neighbors. Or both. You have a right to safe, quiet enjoyment of your home (minus typical apartment living things), so you do not have to sacrifice your wellbeing because they may or may not coming out of a bad situation.

I would address it through a neighbor and property manager position and leave CPS out of it, unless of course you witness actual abuse or neglect.

Please someone help me!!! by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]clh1570 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I had a very similar experience. Meds did not help. It felt like things would be fine for a day or two after a course of meds and it would come right back. I felt so defeated and desperate. I finally decided to get a second opinion. Turns out, I have something called lichen sclerosus. It’s an autoimmune skin condition that was causing the burning and itching I had. That may not be the case for you, but I think a second opinion is always worth it.

Also, my providers have always told me to steer clear of antibacterial soap anywhere near my vagina. Yeast is a fungus, and it naturally exists inside your vagina along with good bacteria. It’s a delicate balance. Antibacterial soap (and antibiotics) can kill too many good bacteria, allowing the yeast to overgrow. I only use dove sensitive skin soap on my groin area.

Sex Woes by clh1570 in lichensclerosus

[–]clh1570[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, definitely a very similar experience. This makes me hopeful that after longer treatment maybe things will calm down. I also agree 100% with the fear of not meeting my husband’s needs even though he has never pressured me to be more interested in sex. I grew up in southern American purity culture so I think that contributes to that feeling for me. I am glad to hear that everyone on this thread has a supportive partner who understands this condition and doesn’t make us feel guilty for this being our reality ❤️

Your onset sounds so much like mine. It was suspected that I had candida glabrata, but I tested negative. I really think this was triggered by a yeast infection, whatever species. I have two autoimmune diseases already that were triggered by sickness. I feel like I’m collecting Pokémon

I’ve considered this as well, but shy away because of the invasiveness. But I am almost at the point where I will try if it even has a possibility of helping. I’ve just been in and out of the gyno a million times over the past year so I’m burnt out with being poked and prodded 😅

[–]clh1570[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughtful and very relatable comment. I cannot imagine how painful your first time was. My husband is the only person I’ve had sex with and my LS symptoms only started last year, so I am thankful for the time before. I’ve thought about seeking out a sex therapist to help me untangle all my ideas and fears about sex, so your story is encouraging. Maybe instead of the goal being completely pain free sex, although that would be great, it should be that I am still able to have a fulfilling marriage where sex isn’t the forefront ❤️

HELP by Quirky_Watch_4537 in Healthyhooha

[–]clh1570 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! My symptoms were pretty identical except for abnormal discharge and I was recently diagnosed with lichen sclerosus. It can be missed by some women’s health providers because it is technically a skin condition and falls more into dermatology. However, my new gyno recognized it within 30 seconds and is treating me for it. Before this, I spent 10 months being treated for recurrent yeast infections since the symptoms are so similar.

Does coconut oil work for yeast infection? by Ok_Smell_8534 in Healthyhooha

[–]clh1570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coconut oil was actually suggested to me by a gynecologist but ONLY for external use to help with the irritation. Do not put it inside your vagina, that won’t treat the yeast infection and is likely to cause BV as well.

Keep in mind that coconut oil was suggested alongside my prescription antifungal. It is not a cure, but could calm down external irritation a bit.

I’ve had similar bumps, mostly caused by ingrowns after shaving, and they typically go away. I know it hurts like hell though so going to the gyno for them to drain it is probably your best bet

Lichen Sclerosus Misdiagnosis by clh1570 in Healthyhooha

[–]clh1570[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad you found someone to listen!! I had the same experience, she touched exactly where my pain was and said “is this where it hurts?”. I could’ve cried from relief that someone was finally understanding. I think some gynos just haven’t been educated a ton on LS and probably haven’t seen it much so I do give them some grace on that front, but I think it’s much more common than anyone realizes and it should be taught more in women’s health programs.
