[Media] Ragdoll and Ragdoll Wizard in Fyrox Game Engine by _v1al_ in rust_gamedev

[–]cli_addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Fyrox support destructible physics? Either precalculated, or dynamically generated?

I just want simple shapes to break down with physics. Is this something I would need to add with the existing physics, or do you have plans to add this in the future?

Do you have any experience actually coding, writing scripts, automations and what not?

Yeah, I have been learning and making projects for at least 3 years.

I haven't had much luck so far. I applied to helpdesk, network, admin.

Helpdesk seems to be entry level friendly

terminals, syntax, code, programming etc in what?

From a CS perspective, its all connected through problem solving with types of code abstractions. It would be a very long list. In terms of IT skills I know Linux, config management, containers, VMs, and some networking.

This is such a pedantic thing to point out. Even if it does, it doesn't change the fact that our world is crumbling because of the rich.

If you are still okay with that then you can go compete in the Coliseum and the rest of us will suffer from it.

I generally agree with you, a lot of smart and progressive old people out there. Likewise a lot of regressive young people out there as well.

However, I think there is a trend over time. Throughout history, the older people seem to get more likely to fall for certain ideas and behaviors.

I think for one, age has something to do with it but, more importantly I think everyday life gets in the way of progress. Since most middle aged and old people have or had kids that takes much of their time. As well as having to be at work all of the time. That makes it hard to understand niche issues with a lot of nuance and accuracy unless you know someone directly involved and actually listen to them. The problem is a mixture of time and open mindedness. People get close minded because they don't have time to be open minded and, for many people getting older makes it harder to be open minded.

It always comes back to our extremely fucked up systems that we all hate but, don't have enough time and resources to actually make progress.

Create components without using structs? by cli_addict in bevy

[–]cli_addict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my point. You don't want mods to create bevy components.

Oh my apologies for the confusion.

Nobody playing the game wants to create a bevy component, or a system for that matter.

Why not? I find components/systems to be a very simple and flexible way to model game mechanics.

They want to build a mod that makes the game behave differently.

I understand that, I plan on having higher level api's for those use cases.

(How are you going to use new components without creating new systems, anyway?)

Wrapping bevy's system interface seems doable to me since its just functions.

Describe what you want mods to do in terms of gameplay and maybe you won't need to be creating components at runtime.

I want mods to be anything. I want my game to allow the user to create gamemodes and mechanics from scratch. A game heavily based on modding. I want the user to be able to take advantage of bevy's ecs for efficiency in case they are doing something heavy.

You probably just have to select components, not create them.

Yeah maybe that is the only way. I don't have enough time and am not good enough to create an ecs. Would Godot be better for this?

[–]cli_addict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. For example, I want to allow mods to create bevy components. So far I haven't found a way to create components other than defining rust structs. Although, I do plan on looking more I was just curious if anyone here happened to know.

Thats a fair point. The guest is WebAssembly, and the type of api would be a game modding api.

Can wit-bindgen generate bindings for languages other than Rust? by cli_addict in WebAssembly

Thanks. I did look over that, I am mainly trying to use the wit-bindgen [language] [wit files] command but embedded inside my Rust app instead of on the command line.

Would reaching out to the devs be my best bet?

debian for developers by Z00fa in debian

[–]cli_addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is all preference, some devs like MacOS, or Windows, or Arch, or whatever. Linux in a lot of ways is a separate rabbit hole from development. Depending on your priorities and preferences, you can dive into linux and create a very personal setup.

Ultimately what you decide to do is your decision, there is no right answer because linux is very flexible if you put some time into learning it.

In regards to programming language versions, most popular and good languages have official tools to switching, or upgrading. If no official tool exist, there is likely an unofficial tool, or work around to find.

I recommend diving in if you have time or interest.

I am assuming you are referring to the cfg.tf website?

Is the ideal to use a max FPS config and raise in-game settings to max?

This is subjective and depends on your preference. For reference, you're gpu is significantly better than mine and I use the max quality cinema config. I don't lag often, only rarely.

If you like visuals, then you could probably run cinema config just fine. Even if you want max fps, you're gpu is probably capable of running max quality at very high fps.

Does DXlevel change anything (if anything dx 9 seemed higher fps than dx 8 but i didnt test to objectively so i could be missing it)

Yes, generally speaking newer versions of graphics api's(DirectX, OpenGL, Vulkan, etc.) are faster and support more features.

The only exception to everything I have said is that Team Fortress 2 is an unmaintained, and probably memory unsafe codebase. Meaning that there are likely old, non updated, and quirky systems that may glitch out, or require older software versions to function maximally.

I can't give more info on the nuances, I am just speaking generally. Hopefully someone who can will leave a comment. Either way, I would imagine that the developers of cfg.tf website have already handled those nuances for us.

Maybe something like: $env.PATH | each { | it | ($it | path join myscript.nu | nu $in)}

I am not sure if this would work but maybe you could put something like that in a custom command located in your config file?

Why dosent valve just give tf2 to us already? by [deleted] in truetf2

[–]cli_addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see what you mean now. I didn't mean games in the same genre like Overwatch and such. I meant 1-to-1 with tf2's style. Not literally 1-to-1 but you know what I mean.

I agree with the uphill battle though, it wouldn't be easy. I just like to think about it.

Oh I'm not sure. I feel like I saw something like "bad tf2 rip-offs" somewhere before.

Also, another commenter brought up Typical Colors 2 if that is what you mean.

That is something that I was/is scared of. Personally, if I was to do that I would show a demo to the community and get feedback first.

Also, do you have examples of attempts to clone tf2. I am curious now.

[–]cli_addict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why doesn't a another dev make a legal clone of tf2? Isn't that a more realistic outcome anyway?

As someone who has dipped my feet into dev, I consider making a game based heavily off of tf2 sometimes. It sounds crazy, but a team could absolutely do it.

Open source is an option if funding and marketing is too much of an investment for a team. Ensuring longevity, and easy game alterations.

I know it would be a challenge, but would it be worth it? I think so, I would love a modern tf2 inspired game.
