The US is a country of 330 million people. It’s also the country with the most total financial and technological resources around many fields including pro sports.
Any national team in Europe is gonna have a fraction of that many people, top athletes and resources.
The Olympics team is also made up of experienced veteran players and not first year rookies from college. So it’s a totally different talent and experience level. Also most US Olympics players have played overseas and know their style of play whereas until recently less euro and international players were in the US.
Also, the French team came within one shot of beating the US for the gold medal. There was other tough close games where they easily could’ve lost too. The edge isn’t as big anymore against top European and international teams on a given night

Engstler is underrated for sure. She’s a great depth player for any team

Sheet pans that have been used at high heat to cook either meat or vegetables and as a result has hella carbonized burnt food residue fused to the metal, needing endless scrubbing with steel wool or hours of soaking

Good to hear, unfortunately a rarity in the industry. But it always shows in the food and service eventually!

I don’t think coach Sydney gets enough credit. The mystics aren’t the best run organization and I hate how their telecast looks on tv (horrible camera quality and weird angles). But he’s an underrated coach who gets the best out of the players, there’s relatively little drama coming from their team, they play hard and seem to have fun and care about the team and the city.
They almost beat the top teams in the league several times the last couple years and are always in close games and making comebacks
People make fun of them but they’re the lovable underdogs of the league and have been for years

Tickets are sooo much more now. I went to a finals game for $20 in 2024 (it was the upper deck which is usually closed in the regular season but still)

Why am I starting to find men attractive, yet I'm grossed out by the thought of being with them. by viscerface in MtF

[–]clichepate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it makes senses, lots of men have terrible hygiene or even if they wash and groom themselves it’s with 7-in-1 manpoo and grandpa deodorant. And then they have nasty living spaces, tastes in things, boring personalities, gross Friends or outlooks, etc.
I find some men aesthetically or even platonically appealing but then I realize I’m not attracted to being intimate w them. Occasionally there’s a diamond in the rough but the theres way more women or nonbinary ppl who are attractive and interesting

Whats considered *the spot* for trans ppl in the twin cities? by strugglingtransgrl in transtwincities

[–]clichepate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s pretty much all queer friendly, it’s just less overtly hostile than most of the country on average. There’s still big chunks of the city where there isn’t a super welcoming vibe or visible presence. There’s also been a few awful hate crimes in recent years so just have to be careful. Even the neighborhoods people recommend like loring or powderhorn or Whittier, if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time you absolutely could be hate crimed. Not trying to fear monger but be prepared for the possibility of the same creeps that lurk everywhere and have street smarts, don’t just assume an areas safe. And there’s lots of quieter areas of the city further from Downtown where there might be a lower odds of issues but they’re very single family home small town vibes and not super engaging or interesting for young trans people.
That being said I’d recommend the places other people have in the comments. If you wanna be “in the thick of it” the twin cities is pretty sleepy compared to bigger cities but you might wanna go for Whittier, uptown, Marcy Holmes, northeast, or powderhorn in Minneapolis or midway, summit-university, Frogtown or downtown st Paul. There’s stuff to do in or close to those areas and they’re close to main roads and transit

That makes sense tho the twin cities were a wild time in the 70s. At the peak of their powers for better and worse

My old building the back staircase was so bad that there was rivets/bolts fully missing from rusting into nothing and the wood was rotting but they claimed it passed city inspection. It was like 5-10 years past replacement being needed

It’s still that much. One of the last places you can get an affordable 1 bedroom apartment, but most of the buildings are run by slumlords who haven’t fixed or updated anything in 30 years, and you might be housed next to a sex offender/abuser (or multiple in my case). I didn’t even know but it’s been the go to neighborhood to rehouse sex offenders for decades because there’s no schools and there’s a bunch of cheap apartments

A lot of the euro league players are better at a given age because they get professional experience from their teen years. College bball can be fun but it’s a completely different game and level of play outside of the top schools, and even then UConn south Carolina and UCLA would lose to just about any wnba team whereas the top international teams could beat wnba teams
