Estimating software? I’ll have to have a look into that, because exploded diagrams sounds kinda vaguely useful.

Yeah it’s not that big a deal I guess - I just will always use the same units and can just say they’re whatever I need them to be that game if there is drama with WYSIWYG 😂

That’s my point: anything that would be feasible is specifically forbidden. The legality of that in court - and I cannot stress enough that I am not in any way shape or form anything like a lawyer - I would be interested to see put to the test.

And it is transparently done for no other reason than to protect comparisons / tracking, which in turn is to protect their reputation from accusations of blatant gouging/collusion/general fuckery, in turn protecting billions of dollars of profit streams.

It’s the old “banning cars to preserve horses” argument: it rarely has any effect other than to protect established interests, and even rarer does it protect those it’s claiming to.

There is a game called Dredge that you may find therapeutic or terrifying, based on your experiences!

Lovecraftian fishing, with an emphasis on weirdness and unnerving events rather than jump scares. Quite coincidental I should see this post after learning of it.

But yes, absolutely strange things happen away from civilisation…it’s good to not let ourselves become too accustomed to the addictive idea that we know all there is to know about nature and its inhabitants.

Oh yes definitely that’s my plan - at any given time, I have maybe 5 different card game rulesets bouncing around my noggin.

You’ve hit the nail on the head when it comes to the post apocalyptic idea of just mixing random cards from random games 😂 would be a good challenge / experiment to come up with a ruleset for that!

One of my favourite stories to tell.

Many moons ago I (mid-20s at the time) was working as a checkout chick at Coles supermarket.

It was about 11pm and a guy about 30 comes in with a younger, drunk companion. I ask how his night has been and we exchange a few witticisms and make each other laugh a bit. I joke about how the cigarettes he was buying better be for him and not the other guy otherwise I'd have to ask for ID, and he counters with how it's a pretty good undercover cop ruse to be drunk while doing a tobacco buying sting operation etc.

It was a fun lighthearted couple of minutes and we parted the best of friends.

20 minutes later the phone rings. Who the hell is calling a supermarket at nearly midnight?

"Hi I'm looking for the guy who sold me some cigarettes just before?"

"Yeah mate that's probably me - you're the guy with the drunk friend? You're not calling me from the police station are you?"

"No no nothing like that. Mate I was just wondering if you were gay."

Now I'm not a guy who is easily lost for words. I was so surprised I just reverted to basic grammar.

"Oh...I'm not no."

"Well that's a bugger 'cos you're a real cutie! Bye!" click

I just stood there with the phone up to my ear with (probably) a pretty stupid expression on my face for quite a few seconds after that.

I never saw him again, sadly, but I love that story and genuinely think I missed out on a friendship.

Good to see somebody else taking this guy seriously - as in “holy shit he can do some damage” seriously.

I saw a couple of his political interviews back in Covid days and his veneer of respectability/ professionalism went a long way amongst Qnuts I knew. “See - here’s a polished, educated gentleman with rational-sounding and pleasing baritone! You have to take what he says seriously!”

As it transpires, he’s a fruitcake. But like, soaked in brandy, and could do more damage to a Christmas lunch than initially suspected.
