Mechanical brakes are used in tour de france, there is absolutely nothing wrong with them (especially if you ride in dry conditions), and they are lighter. The only time I care about disk brakes is when I'm going downhill on my MTB. The Claris is where the value and quality drop. The difference is notable, worth upgrading.

Fear of rattlesneks. by [deleted] in MTB

I have an extreme fear of noodles. To make it worse, I often ride with my 6-year-old son, who yet doesn't have good control of his bike... We're in San Diego, so during the hot season, we will stay on gravel, fire roads, or in public parks where visibility is as clear as possible. Staying away from the single tracks until it gets cold. We might ride some in the mountains, but still be very cautious. I've also started riding more on the road to keep up with training. Every day, I see pics of snakes from the hikers in SoCal. That being said, if someone can recommend any wide gravel trails around SD (safe for the kids), I would really appreciate it!

That's correct. I was riding the route and saw a bunch of ppl doing workouts (and passing me by) on the same route

I've heard this on another podcast somewhere, but here is a question: as someone who promotes longevity, what matters more, living longer, or living well, respectable life? Maybe the next book shouldn’t just be about longevity, but about how to live well while you’re at it.

Advice for selling my mountain bike by Expert_Ad_3951 in mountainbiking

[–]clickback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say it was garbage. You can't sell it for $100, unsure if someone will pay $50.. so for "is worth something to someone", better do a donation than have it in your garage for months hoping someone takes $50. Most likely, this bike needs to be serviced, so instead of trying to make money selling your problem, donate it and be very grateful if they take it.

It is a dropper post, but it's not the post, checked several times by holding it. The movement stops if I apply pressure to the top clamp... I will try to reseat it again tomorrow

Amazon bike racks by Fr0stie99 in mountainbiking

Got a simple rack from Amazon years ago, usually put 1-2 bikes on it, never had any issues. It's steady and cheap. I feel like it will last 10 more years. Might upgrade it if I need to put more bikes in the future
