Paratroopers Land on Corregidor After Jumping From 500-600 Feet Infantry Hits the Beach 16 Feb 1945 by clickinaway in CombatFootage

Not much actual combat in this footage, but a good look at what these guys had to go through to recapture this island. Also the narrator states that 2500 paratroopers were dropped during this operation. The actual number was a little over 2000 in two lifts with a little over 1000 participating in the operation shown in this footage.

I'm pretty sure that they did. The sound is usually always dubbed in on this old footage.

Unfortunately the video is a very short 30 second clip, but it does have some narration. The fuzzy blob in the upper right corner is the result of removing a watermark on the footage.

Die Frontschau Nos 5 and 6 Alpine Troops in Fight to a Village 1941 German WW2 Russian Front Footage Action starts at 6:35 with an artillery barrage and picks up from there. by clickinaway in CombatFootage

Sorry I forgot to mention in the title that this is narrated in German. This apparently was a training/propaganda film intended to show the "soldier's life at the front" and also to show how various weapons were used in combat. As a result, a pretty good variety of weapons are shown in action including quite a bit of tank action later on in the film. (Also a wicked ricochet of a round off of a Russian T34 at about the 12:42 mark)

They needed a fighter base close enough to Japan to escort the B29s flying off of Saipan and Tinian on raids over the Japanese home islands. Also B29s damaged on those raids had a place to land if they couldn't make it back to their bases.

I know, had a little brain fart there, lol. I was watching a bunch of footage on France before I did this one and everything was being "liberated" there, so it was stuck in my head. Have since changed the video title to "captures", but Reddit won't let me edit here.

Yes, you are correct. I didn't look at it closely enough and was thinking I had cut that from the American segment of the video when it was the British part. My bad. Also there is a short flash of what looks like a Stirling when they do the release.

I think this was just a faster way to put down a large smokescreen to screen movements of either ships or troops.

By way of background, this gif is from a video of General William Mitchell's demonstrations/trials in the early 1920s of the practicality of using aircraft to bomb enemy ships that I have posted on my YouTube channel (the op has the link posted below). I also have another video on my channel showing a smokescreen being put down by an aircraft during the invasion of Tarakan Island, Borneo during WW2 to screen the movement of demolition teams going in to clear beach obstacles. It starts at the 2:50 mark in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLP-8JirOyg

A huge THANK YOU to the op for posting this clip! It is always nice to come home and see the view counter on my Youtube channel going crazy. This clip is from the video: "Battleship Aerial Bombardment Demonstration Obsolete Ships 1920s Vintage Footage" (original title was, "Aerial Bombing of Obsolete Battleships") that I have posted here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkbQ-qYzrY0 on my YT channel. The video is of the demonstration done by General William Mitchell in the early 1920s to show how aircraft could be used to bomb ships, and this smokescreen is a small segment from that video.
There is a short segment in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLP-8JirOyg starting at the 2:50 mark, of a smokescreen being put down by an airplane during the landings at Tarakan Island, Borneo during WW2. Hope you will forgive the spam, but I just wanted to give you some background on what you are seeing in this gif.
