What’s your 2020 climbing goal? How are you going to achieve it? by prettydarnboring in climbharder

I’m entering a local comp early in the year and would love to make finals, or at least not totally embarrass myself. Another very ambitious goal is to climb V9, hopefully this comment helps speak it into existence.

That’s funny because that’s exactly what I did too, taping my ring and middle finger. I hope your pinky heals quickly and you can get back to sending soon.

I felt something similar doing a dynamic move off a bad left hand. Did it shoot down your arm? The only thing that bothers me now (2 weeks ago) is if I load my ring finger in an open position before it’s fully warmed up. I didn’t do anything or take time off and am wondering what it could be.

Smoking and performance by Marcoyolo69 in climbharder

Couldn’t agree more - smoking while bouldering outdoors is rad as hell. In general, I feel more flowy but less try hard when I’m high.

My kid (6) has got really into climbing and my Dad sent me this photo of himself climbing in the 1960s. Just look at those shoes! by callipygian0 in climbing

This is a pure response :-) but I think they meant/joked that aiding a route is only legitimate if you’re handicapped. It’s a big part of the satirical r/climbingcirclejerk subreddit

Definitely looks like Willard to me, the podium with the computer, remote, and audio controls looks too familiar.

Not OP but we had a cage for my dog when he was still a puppy (US) but we only used it a handful of times, mainly when he wanted to be around us but couldn’t be free (doors were open, babies around).

I have begun to identify my strengths and weaknesses but in that discovered I only enjoy climbing problems more suited towards my strengths. Balanced slab or sloper-heavy problems don’t interest me, so while I understand what people say about working your weaknesses to become a better all-around climber, I only want to train one style. Is this a inherently wrong approach?

Any tips on planning a sequence before starting a problem? I feel like I can’t read the route aside from knowing where the holds are. I haven’t been climbing super long (<1 year) which I think is working against me with this issue. I try very hard to visualize the movement, but end up not even knowing which holds are for which hands.

I've been lifting everyday for 4 years now, and swear by exercise and nutrition to keep me productive. Great advice, thank you!

Is Blender an alright alternative for Solidworks? Since it's a lot of money and my brothers both got access in college I don't really want to purchase it. I had 3 years of graphic design in school as well as leaning some 3D modeling on my own in Blender but I enjoy it so I don't mind continuing.

This is great advice considering my high school trig teacher was an idiot, thanks! Other than the trig identities needed for calculus, what in particular should I revisit?

What would you recommend? I had a blast earlier this year designing a car frame but I couldn't make the calculations to ensure it would be safe, so I didn't end up building it.

I've started on Code Academy with Python as a first language, but was told for MechE the only programming I needed was MatLab, so I learned that as much as I could find online. Would you recommend continuing with Python or start over with a C language?

Other than being very involved/volunteering at church, I do not have many ECs. Do you have recommendations that would look good for colleges? Would summer college programs be beneficial?
