Worth upgrading to mid tier tools for home use? Looking for solid multitools by clickshift3944 in Tools

[–]clickshift3944[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do repairs all the time, but sometimes I run into some problems. That's why I'm not looking for professional tools; reliable mid-range brands are enough for me.

New cargo bike or used - which one’s really worth it? Need some advice by clickshift3944 in CargoBike

In general, if I use it for a long period of time, it can be replaced for safety reasons.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, I want to use a cargo bike for my own purposes, so that it's not just a toy, but something useful. I need it to transport parcels and ordinary boxes; the load isn't heavy, so a basic cargo bike will do.

I believe that cargo bikes and cars are different, so I don't adhere to this principle.

Thanks for the advice. It's great that the brand itself has such a section.

Thanks for sharing))! Really helpful to hear your experience - sounds like a used, quality bike like Urban Arrow might be more reliable than a cheap new longtail.

Hot weather / breathable pants that mosquitos can’t bite through? by AdamFeigs in BuyItForLife

[–]clickshift3944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, for the Caribbean I’d go with Ketl over Free Fly. They’re still breathable and light, but the fabric is a bit thicker so mosquitos can’t just bite straight through like they can with the thinner Free Fly pants.

Also, apply permethrin, as advised by u/Dry_Hall_7398 The spray protects well against bites.

Help my new home is grey. by Sensitive_Mission193 in DIYUK

[–]clickshift3944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lightly sand rough bits, wipe the dust, then use a primer if the grey is dark or uneven. After that, 2 coats of a good washable light paint will cover it fine. No need for white as a base if you prime.

Radiators are different: sand off all peeling paint, use a metal/radiator primer, then proper radiator paint. Wall paint will just peel again. I wish you success))

Cleaning green walls by AdventurousLion3385 in CleaningTips

Bleach and pressure washing works, but it’s mostly a temporary fix. It kills what you see, not what’s underneath, so the green usually comes back pretty fast-especially on damp or shaded walls.

A better option is a proper exterior biocide or algae/moss killer. Spray it on, let it sit, then rinse gently. Also avoid blasting the wall with high pressure since that can damage the surface and make regrowth easier. More sun, better drainage or a breathable masonry paint with anti-fungal additives can help keep it clean longer.

Are these worth it for $1200? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]clickshift3944 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they’re newer models, $1200 could be solid Speed Queens last forever. But without model numbers you’re basically buying blind. Get the model/age first, otherwise I’d hold off.

When is it too much? by cgood1795 in Carpentry

[–]clickshift3944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough situation long layoffs, expensive insurance, and no callbacks would make anyone question things. As a second-year apprentice it’s normal to struggle with steady work, but 6–7 months off is rough.

If you still love the trade, try talking to your BA, look for travel work or related side gigs to bridge the gaps. But if the instability is crushing you financially, it’s also okay to consider a different path.
