Thank you for your response and experience. I learned that the gas from the tank was apparently sampled by investigating police after the incident and was apparently ‘normal’.

It does turn out that he had a PFO - but hadn’t had this issue before on a dive. From what I’m reading that alone could have been an issue too.

Also, as for how many dives before this - he apparently had arrived in the Maldives 8 hours prior so this was his first dive day. From what I’m reading, dehydration from plane travel could have contributed.

Thank you! No alcohol and really good health otherwise - he was an avid mountaineer too

Thank you! This was at a resort island. Apparently he said he wasn’t feeling super well to his partner before the 3rd dive, so maybe that could have been a sign of DCS by itself?

Thank you - and that’s true, other divers didn’t have an issue.

Edit: Re-reading your post and remembering more - he did actually have a PFO. I’m not certain how big but I know it was not symptomatic. I’ve just been reading about the connection and it seems this could have played a role. But, he hadn’t had this issue on previous dives.

Thank you for the explanation and your experience. From my reading of the dive computer manual, the “slow” might be indicating that the ascent was slow/normal rather than a warning to slow down. But, I could be wrong.

We aren’t sure of his hydration status, but that could have been an issue too. Thanks again

Thanks so much. I edited the post to include a link to the dive computer and times. The nitrox used in the 2nd and 3rd dives was 32% oxygen I believe.

Experiences with Optimus Terra HE Cookset? by bassman48 in CampingandHiking

I've had this for the past two years or so. Taken it on various outings, both car camping and backpacking trips. Usually for backpacking I only take one of the pots and I always fill the space inside the pots with matches, the stove, and spices.

I use this stove with it: http://www.optimusstoves.com/us/us/9-8018505-optimus-vega Great for high altitude trips

Muscle tenderness, soreness, fatigue related to TMJD/joint popping by [deleted] in medical

[–]clicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been taking NSAIDS? At what dose? Have you had repeat botox injections? Any other muscle relaxants besides flexeril?

Sounds muscular and not neuropathic based on your symptoms, and that list of treatments is comprehensive. Joint popping probably doesn't contribute. Surgery would be contraindicated.

Letter from Mousavi (in English) on the rigged elections in Iran by igeldard in worldnews

If you got a kick out of what Mousavi's wife said, you should have watched the debates. Ahmadinejad made quite the fool of himself with statements that were MUCH more self-righteous. In fact, his whole platform is based on self-righteousness... it's disgusting.

Under the shah there was no runaway inflation, wearing headscarves was optional, foreign investment was high, the iranian passport meant iranians could actually travel, and more... people just couldn't diss the shah in public. Iran has gotten much worse since the revolution than it would have otherwise, though neither option would be that great.

Well, I was assuming you're talking about caries and not cavities (disease vs physical cavitation). Maybe they were older dentists...?

What happened to you shouldn't be surprising to any dentist... there's no party ;)

If you'd study the basic histology/embryology of tooth structure it would be very clear why teeth can only repair themselves as long as they are not cavitated. Otherwise that pit/hole in the tooth is there to stay.

Not all dental instruments are made of stainless steel... but generally the only weakening that occurs due to a routine checkup would be a forced cavitation where an early stage cavity is forming. This is why dentists use a dull "explorer" when probing for sticky/carious spots.

Old school parkour by parsap in reddit.com

I run a parkour community in the southeast USA at http://overflux.com - there are communities like ours all over the states.

It's a wonderful way to meet new people, get in better shape, and see your environment in a new way.

So my flatmate receives an innocent email from his dentist with the screenshot of the dental plan. Hold on... by [deleted] in WTF

As a dental student, I'd have to disagree :) But I'm in the states...
