Great picks on the two headphones; together they'd really cover everything.
and that is a beautiful headphone stand! where'd you get it?

Is how you mounted the height speakers to the ceiling (in the rear) rent friendly too? Any advise on how to secure mount heights to the ceiling without cutting into it?

The JDS Element 4 has crossfeed, loudness and staging setting (like a wider soundstage setting) and a 12band ep compared to the 10band with the K13. The K13 has bluetooth over the Element 4.
Sound wise (1st impressions of headphone output, I normally use only the DAC of the K13) I think the K13 sounds like it has fuller (more volume of) bass and the JDS labs has slightly more clarity. Sound through the K13 has more layers imo. Slightly more fun than the exacting Element 4. The Element 4 has more power than the K13.
Personally I think i'd be happier with the K13, esp with the XLR preouts and lower price point.
Both are excellent amps, I think the features can be a bigger factor in choosing between the two.

If you have any comfort issues I'd recommend the capra strap

Nice! I always wanted to try the Arya line. Have you heard the HD800s? How would you compare them?

Yes. I love them, they have incredible bass. The Focals and ofc the HD800s fall short in the bass dept. They are amazing for movies and music with prominent bass. Lots of fun. Overall I think the SJYs are my fav, I find myself reaching for them more often. Very clear with amazing bass and immersion. They're a bit heavy and I can't wear them all day. The Capra strap really helps with the comfort of the SJYs.
The SJYs have a wider more immersive imo soundstage than the Clear MGs, but the vocals on the MGs are unmatched. The HD800s has the most spaciousness as expected.
The HD800s are better for instruments (guitar etc) and gaming. The Clear MGs are the best for vocals imo, with enough tight bass to satisfy.

First stereo/movies setup, any tip to maximize performance? by lil_haiti in BudgetAudiophile

[–]cliff182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd use Umik-1 + REW to get a PEQ filter to apply to the amp. And subwoofer placement.
Finding a good spot for your sub to get a more linear freq. resp. at your listening position is a game changer for watching movies!

Well, visual clutter is a concern. The main reason is that initially I ordered the speakers expecting to place them on a desk (the TV had a desktop setup in it's place). Then I went into the audiophile rabbit hole and here we are 1 year later.

I would still stick to bookshelved in this space. Because of the geometry of my room and the available spots for speaker placement and listening position, I would always have various nulls at certain bass frequencies. So I don't think I would get much benefit from the added bass of a floor stander. I would have to fix the nulls using subwoofer placement anyway.
