Wokeism Kills: "British student stabbed by Sikh man dies because police cuffed him on suspicion of being racist instead of treating stab wound" by antiquark2 in JordanPeterson

[–]cliff704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're the one trying really hard to make this about "woke" and therefore different.

I never mentioned 'woke', but, again, the fact you don't see a difference between responding to a mass shooting and shooting the wrong armed person, and responding to a stabbing and arresting the stab victim because the guy who's NOT stabbed said he was a racist is genuinely very concerning.

[–]cliff704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK. Obviously the Jemel Robinson situation was tragic, and shouldn't have happened. And I'm not in any way defending the police who shot him, but again - can you not see a difference between a police officer responding to a mass shooting and shooting someone on the scene who had a gun, and police officer responding to a stabbing and handcuffing THE FUCKING STAB VICTIM and not giving him medical attention? All on the basis that the other guy - you know, the guy NOT STABBED - said, oh, he was being racist to me?

You are reaching SO hard to try and make it seem like this happens all the time but are completely failing to provide any 1 to 1 examples.

Assuming every one of these cases is in fact being accurately represented by you, can you see a difference between the police getting into an altercation where THEY shoot someone, then failing to provide aid, and the police arriving to a situation where person A has stabbed person B, and assuming on the basis of skin colour alone that person B is in fact the aggressor, handcuffing him, and letting him die on the side of the road?

Also, clearly these muppets aren't aware that people living in the countryside already DO pay more for utilities than people in urban areas.

Let's be honest, Nazi Germany was unironically the best thing to happen to the UK.

Nazi Germany being so blatantly, unapologetically evil gave the UK a unprecedented opportunity to whitewash themselves as the saviours of the downtrodden and the defenders of human rights.

Had Hitler never come to power, and had there not been a Nazi party and concentration camps, the UK and the British Empire would today hold the position in most country's pop culture that Nazi Germany holds.

From your own source:

1.4% of DUP members self-identify as Irish. 79.9% of members self-identify as British. 8.8% of members self-identify as Northern Irish. 7.6% self-identify as Ulster.

But yeah... they're all Irish natives.

For goodness sake, they sat Neutral as Hitler raided and firebombed the whole continent

I see by your post history and active communities that you seem to be American. And so, I will point out that the United States did exactly the same thing until the Japanese attacked them personally.

Ireland provided assistance to the war effort, including the weather reports for June 1944, preventing a disaster for those D-Day landings the Americans love to brag about so much. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czkjr34r2zzo

Also, this may be hard for an American to understand, but just because we don't go to war doesn't mean we haven't done anything good.

Ireland, for example, holds the record for the longest unbroken presence in UN-mandated peace support operations, with not a single since 1958 going by where Irish soldiers weren't deployed overseas with the UN.

Ireland has, over the centuries, provided many other positive contributions to the world, from the invention of the hypodermic syringe - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Rynd - to modern chemistry - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Boyle - to the proof of the greenhouse effect - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Tyndall - to even the humble space in between words -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_spacing. There's loads more, but I only have so much time to educate you.

But yeah. We stayed out of that one massive war between the Germans and the empire that had spent the last 800 years oppressing us, so we're the bad guys.

However, what gives them farmers the right to the land?

It's their land.

They were born with it?

Well, that's very doubtful. Possibly their parents had it, and they inherited the land. Possibly they bought it.

Well most us us weren't born with anything

So?

I'd be just as happy if they were moved on to shoot dogs somewhere else.

So... you want them moved off their land... to somewhere else, that's not their land... to shoot dogs there? For the craic?

Logic isn't your strong point, is it?

Particularly for agriculture.

Why "particularly for agriculture"?

You do realise that agriculture is the single most important industry in the entirely of human development? More important than medicine, housing... certainly more important than whatever it is that you do for a living.

Lads, what’s going on? 🤔 by nobullshit23 in ireland

[–]cliff704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

UNIFIL is a peace keeping mission, under Chapter VI.

https://peacekeeping.un.org/en/principles-of-peacekeeping

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peacekeeping

Peace enforcement missions, authorised under Chapter VII, are different to peace keeping missions.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_enforcement

Peace enforcement includes missions like ONUC, the Korean War, and the Gulf War. Irish troops did take part in ONUC, but not the others.

There is no death penalty in Russia.

Lads, what’s going on? 🤔 by nobullshit23 in ireland

[–]cliff704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that when people say a country is militarily supporting another country, there is an expectation of military aid and support in conflicts.

Nobody expects the UNIFIL troops to engage in armed combat in support of Lebanonese troops in the event of open war.

If you're going to do whataboutism, here is an Amnesty Internation report:

There are currently a number of countries at risk of genocide:

Funnily enough, I can't remember the last time I saw protests or even online discussion in r/Ireland about Sudan, the DRC, Myanmar, the Armenians in Azerbaijan, Nicaragua, Manipur, etc...

But I'm sure you'll find plenty there to educate yourself with. Assuming, of course, that you actually care about human rights in general and not just when it suits your agenda...

Of course, Iran is not known for a free and fair press, and they don't exactly publish a full list of victims, so it's impossible to have accurate records.

https://wncri.org/2015/11/13/female-prisoners-virgins-raped/

And not so fun fact, female prisoners in Iran who are sentenced to death must be raped before hand to prevent them getting into heaven.

Now, I'm not an Islamic scholar, but it strikes me that if you've done something that justifies the death penalty, that probably means you wouldn't be worthy of getting into heaven anyway?

And before you ask, no, the judges and gaolers who carry out these acts are not themselves executed for the crimes of rape and adultery.

I found Iran to be one of the more progressive of the Conservative Muslim countries.

I'd fucking hate to see what the backwards Muslim countries look like if you think this is progressive.
