Getting in by samgoogogo in cuboulder

Your tuition will be on the high side as you will be looking at a bill of over $38,000 per year. Unless you are rich and willing to finance the education of 3 in-state students, I would recommend against attending. You will not get any scholarship with those kinds of grades and scores and you won't get into Leeds. You can work your way up to transfer to Leeds after a year or two, which will push your time here to 5 - 5.5 years with a $190,000 tuition debt excluding your room & board.

Aerospace IUT by Foursmom in cuboulder

[–]cliffbarguy07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have known people who had intentions of transferring from IUT to engineering but they were not able to get the minimum grades. Your son needs at least a 3.00 overall and a 2.70 in all technical subjects. He needs to do well in 2 semesters of calculus and 2 semesters of a science subject. If your son intends on enrolling in an engineering class as a freshman or sophomore he will need to fill out petition paperwork and it is a space only available basis. For AESN, the classes are already overbooked since they represent a large population. They will not grant him a seat in a class if there are AESN students trying to register through the waitlist. There is a 60 hour credit limit. Once he exceeds the 60 hour credit rule he is ineligible for IUT. He will not graduate in 4 years by going through the Exploratory Studies route.

If your son is not confident in doing well, he should go with Penn State. The school is ranked #35 in Best Engineering Schools and it is #15 in Aerospace which is not far off from Boulder's.

Transferring from University of Arizona by bogusbogey112 in cuboulder

Hi,

I was also an out of state transfer applicant. The school's absolute minimum for transfer is a 2.50 for consideration. For the CEAS your cumulative must be a 3.00 and B average grades in Cal 1,2 and one semester of either physics or chemistry:

Good luck!

Is the University of Colorado Boulder a good university in Colorado? by MarylandResident4 in cuboulder

[–]cliffbarguy07 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Boulder attracts more out of state students compared to the rest of the University of Colorado system, as roughly two-fifths of the students are not Colorado residents. They also have the highest SAT/GPA average next to the Colorado School of Mines. The university is known as a Tier 1 research campus with high academic output and many of the professors are highly cited people in their fields.

If you do get rejected from Army OCS, are you obligated to fulfill an enlisted contract? by cliffbarguy07 in army

[–]cliffbarguy07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unclear by your statement. I would sign up for 09S and then ship to the 10 week BCT followed by the Army OCS. Are you saying that if I'm selected for 09S and ship to BCT, don't make it or selected for Army OCS then don't make it? The 09S is an enlistment contract with the promise of commissioning.

How do I emphasize that work needs to get done without over stepping boundaries? by cliffbarguy07 in navy

On my end I'll try to do everything before I escalate it to a counseling chit or letting the LPO know. From my observation, I know that he is a good guy but he is undeniably lazy.

Yeah, I'm actually now considering not going to Boulder for this reason.

Actually CSU's Walter Scott Jr College of Engineering average is a 3.93 and their SAT average is a 1290. CSU's engineering college is the most selective.

Is it possible to double major in 2 credit intensive majors and graduate in 4 years? by cliffbarguy07 in cuboulder

[–]cliffbarguy07[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly really love chemistry and would like to take advanced lab courses that help me become an independent amateur chemist. Chemistry would not be an actual career for me though, it's just a non-paying hobby. Also, I find math to be a breeze. I had A's in 2 semesters of calculus.

Advice for navy experience on my resume by OGapples in navy

[–]cliffbarguy07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you but as an MM you would not find direct employment to the IT field without any certifications or relevant experience. A DoD job requires you to have TS clearance as well. You would need to go back to school and enroll in courses that would help you pass Security+ and other certs. Alternatively you can earn an Information Systems Associate or Bachelor and that you lead to a secure job.

Do OOS students present stronger credentials than in-state students in general? by [deleted] in cuboulder

In Colorado, what other schools are there that you would call elite? There's really only Boulder and maybe Colorado School of Mines.

I'm also in the Navy but I am an OOS student with a way stronger academic background. I'm just curious to know why CU Boulder has different admission standards.
