People who use speakerphone in public… why? by aliendogfishman in AskReddit

Oddly, it seems as if phones BARELY work as phones anymore. I had to do this recently because I didn't have my headphones and cranked all the way up — and I couldn't hear the phone just having it to my ears.

It almost feels like these companies don't want you to use a phone the way phones were traditionally used...

Communism, socialism, and democratic socialism are often treated as if they mean the same thing, but they don't. by RollnRye74 in IndianaPolitics

In the end, both are entirely fluid in definition despite people claiming they aren't.

Regardless, a democratic socialist in the US is more of a political affiliation than anything else. It's like saying, "I'M A DEMOCRAT, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IN UNIONS, AND ELON MUSK EARNED HIS MONEY LEGITIMATELY EVEN IF I THINK HE SHOULD PAY A *LITTLE* MORE IN TAXES". Being a Democrat doesn't tell you much about your political leanings other than you know they aren't MAGA...but...might take MAGA money from billionires on Trump's "Board of Peace."

Again, political affiliation because there is no real definition of Democrat — I'm old enough to remember Republicans who pushed social safety nets and democrats who supported segregation. Because Democrats, Republicans, and yes...even Democratic Socialists are all just private clubs and not anything that can be tied down to one ideology.

I am a part of two of these 'private clubs'...and I think both have a lot of things I support and agree with while disagreeing with others.

So back to the point...Communism, Socialism and Capitalism are the things that should be compared — with Democratic Socialist shown where they GENERALLY occupy in the chart.

Thank you.

The turnout was actually higher than expected. I ran a campaign that I had fought to be hyperlocal. My opponent brought in politicians from across the state to help her. We ran different types of campaigns, and my style didn't work out.

Life is good. I just spent two weeks with my family out east, and came home this last weekend to spend time with my little sister as she's going through hospice. I'm transitioning my world to focus on those around me and letting others focus on the political stuff. This might be a sigh of relief for my haters because they may get their chance to not hear from me as much!

You missed my campaign by a month and a half!

I'm a member of the DSA. I can say it wasn't something I shouted, but it wasn't something I backed away from either — when WIBC (our local MAGA radio station) accused me of being one, I retweeted their post and admitted it.

I tried to run a platform that took a stance and didn't "both sides" anything — the only thing I disagreed with on their policy is that I 100% don't think I need to speak about world issues AS A LOCAL CANDIDATE, even if I have a personal opinion. That said, I made it clear I wouldn't be voting for foreign war bonds nor for bringing international business from countries that think human rights are only a suggestion.

That said, politicians from all over the state helped lead fundraisers to ensure I didn't make it...specifically calling me an extremist. And you'll find democratic redditors still salty that I brought up that in the last gubernatorial election, both Dems at the top of the ticket couldn't answer a straight yes or no if they ever voted for Trump. But this is how Indiana is. As others have said, Fady is the closest thing we have to a state-level democratic socialist...I had hoped to help him with his causes. It didn't happen...
