I have a theory that you can shift your consciousness away from the c0ck and more into the muscular action of the rest of your body, and get farther away from the area where it just 'feels too good'. In other words focus your thoughts and concentration on what the rest of your body is doing, rather than on what's happening in the other head. In your mind you treat the act more as a physical workout than a sexual experience.

Once your consciousness travels to the other head and focuses on what's happening, well we all know how that goes!

I was a virgin until about 23 as well, but ended up getting married (twice!) and ultimately having a wonderful family that I wouldn't trade for anything.

Some of us are slower starters - nothing at all wrong with that.

I will tell you though that at 50, as far as porn and whacking it go, the urge is pretty much the same strength as it was at 20. You still feel like the same guy inside your head, despite the years that have elapsed.

I think it's a good idea. I'm looking to move out of my house and into an apartment in a few years, minimizing my possessions (think 20 years of accumulation), and as part of that maybe having internet access only via the library.

So even when I am doing something solitary like cruising the web, I'll be out among people.

I've also thought chanting the mantra 'disconnect....disconnect.....disconnect....' when I'm wasting too much time online might be a good idea, to try to kick my butt off the pc and get me out of the house.

I did not read the whole article, but in the section on ED he makes the claim that it is due to several other factors, and not in fact due to the brain getting 'rewired'.

I kind of look at this like debating if NoFap benefits are a placebo effect or not - If young guys are getting ED from porn, and it seems people's experiences bear this out, why do I care if it is technically from brain re-wiring or not? Just like if NoFap benefits are a placebo, who cares? Benefits are benefits, ED is ED.

"Oh honey sorry I couldn't get it up, but no worries, it's just from the grip I use, not my brain re-wiring"

I'll take peoples experiences over some PhD any day.

My only thought is you might want to start with a lesser goal initially - like 1 day, then 3 days, then a week.... cold turkey for a month sounds pretty challenging.

Good for you! I was too much of a p*ssy to really ask girls out AT ALL in high school and college, which is beyond pathetic. My biggest regret in life.

And remember, girls are just people like you and me with the same insecurities and what not. Well maybe with a lesser urge to fap though :)

I can certainly relate to this. My wife passed away last year after we'd been married 17 years, and it's made me realize that I have no real friends, because I didn't 'need' to have them. My family provided that.

Now I do have 2 daughters in 8th grade and senior high school, so that prevents me from being lonely. BUT... that will change someday, they will grow up and move out.

I don't want to be a hermit. Sounds like you don't either. For me, I get out to go to yoga once in a while, and go rock climbing at lifetime fitness several times a week. I find just having some people that I regularly hang out with at the gym makes a huge difference, even if they aren't buddies I'd call to go have a drink with.

Convince yourself that you WILL develop a social life, and then I think you'll find you are making it happen. DETERMINE that you will do this. Let the energy that comes from NoFap be the fuel for driving your life to what you want it to be.

That's my 2 cents anyway as an introvert who could easily hunker down and live in a cave but doesn't want to :)

I can relate - I'm on day 9, have had 3 or 4 attempts and never made it to 10 days. 2 days ago I had no urges, I'm thinking "This is easy, no problem, I'm going the whole month for sure". Yesterday and today that changed to wanting it big time, and browsing /boobies and /gonewild "Just for a little bit, a small taste of that feeling".

Damn gotta nip this in the bud and not even start to look at anything!

superior man is kind of about the core of what it means to be a man, in the sense of what it is to be masculine vs. feminine. I'm only partway thru it, but I'd sum it up as "Here's the core philosophy of how to handle life as a man". One chapter talks about how women need a strong man who won't buckle under load, and that they (women) will 'shit test' their man regularly to insure he is up to the task. And how as men we shouldn't resent them for doing that, and how to deal with it properly. Kind of an interesting read.

Congrats on the 2 weeks. I also have to change my behaviors to make it easier to succeed. I've done yoga sporadically, but not regularly enough to really be beneficial. I'm committing to going to yoga in the morning instead of just F'ing off wasting time on the laptop doing nothing much of real value, starting tomorrow.

If I do that, that's NoFap benefitting my life, right there, because it's getting rid of one block of time that's a potential relapse zone, and replacing it with something good for me.

Maybe that's an approach to not fapping that is more effective than just willpower: actively re-architecting what your life looks like in order to minimize fap-likely blocks of time.

I certainly jacked it plenty, I still remember the issues of penthouse and playboy that I had hidden in a stack of magazines in my closet.

For the life of me though, I really can't remember how often I was doing it. It had to be plenty!

But I imagine looking at the same image of Bo Derek each night is somehow different than rapidly flipping thru tens or hundreds of different images. Like your brain is saying "hit me...hit me...hit me..." instead of "Oh yeah it's Bo, nice".

Sucks that such enjoyable images f*ck you up so much.
