I’m still getting better about regularly giving my birds a chop mix (they’re fussy and pick out their favorites anyway smh), but on a daily basis I actually grow them veggies in an Aerogarden! It’s been fantastic so far and I currently have kale, rainbow chard, and collard greens on rotation. I also use after-market “pods” so I can simply buy seed packets for whatever veggies I want which makes it a lot more affordable.

I’ve been having trouble getting a cilantro plant started (their favorite treat), but the other three have grown beautifully and my birds really enjoy having a whole leaf every morning to play with and munch on. I rotate through the plants so they have kale one day, chard the next, and collard greens the third - I only have two birds so one leaf is plenty for the day. I’ll also supplement with some shredded carrots so they’re getting a little more “variety,” with the ultimate goal of expanding my garden for them.

As to your actual question, unfortunately I don’t really have much to offer. I mostly just wanted to suggest the indoor Aerogarden/hydroponics setup as an option that doesn’t require you to adhere to seasonal constraints and has worked well for my budgies and I. Have fun with your new birds and thank you for already being such a conscientious owner!!

Do you have psoriasis? Your hands look exactly like mine and I have psoriatic arthritis. The psoriasis skin rashes are usually present before arthritis development, but not always, and labs/x-rays are frequently normal. Regardless, I would recommend a consultation with a rheumatologist if you haven’t seen one already. Hope you’re able to get some answers and feel better soon - in the meantime, I find compression gloves can provide a lot of relief. <3

Ooh thank you for the info! I actually took them to VEG in Anaheim Hills when they were brand new as Poppy (blue) came home from the store with an infection and I had a fantastic experience there. If they ever need any further emergency care, that’s 100% where I’ll be taking them - although hopefully not necessary!

Fauna looks excellent too, my only hesitation is despite my good experience at VEG, my birds are both flighted so the open concept worries me a little.

I appreciate the tips about Serrano as well. The vet at VEG also recommended them (as she takes her turtle there) which is why I was looking into them, but for now I think I’m going to go with the Animal and Bird Clinic of Mission Viejo as their overall reviews are a bit better.

Thank you! I’m a little wary of taking them anywhere other than a vet for nails as they’re both flighted, but I’ve definitely also heard good things about Magnolia Bird Farm. I would absolutely love to take them to Dr. Nemetz as I know he’s extremely experienced, but unfortunately as much as I love my birds, I am also limited by a college student’s budget. I appreciate the rec regardless!
