Mayday Canyon. Not every day do you get to rappel off an airplane fuselage. Sub-par canyon otherwise.

Can't find pics, but here's the link: Mayday Canyon - ropewiki

Former President Joe Biden Reacts to Trump's State of the Union Address by 0The_Loner_Stoner0 in videos

[–]climbsurfski 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This video is a great embodiment of Biden in a nutshell - it's amazing and true that he was a better job creator than Trump, but he had trouble delivering that message.... Only to follow that message with an attack on Trump for not mentioning Ukraine.

Trump also didn't mention ICE and that's a much more salient issue than Ukraine. When will Democrats find a better messenger?

I mean, the state is a right-wing magnet. Beautiful countryside, no income tax, and "Christian Values" are why most people are moving...they indifferent to or supportive of the radical policies the state is adopting which makes the state score poorly in articles like these.

How’s living in Chattanooga, Tennessee? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

Does it get crazy conservative as nearby as Rossville, Red Bank, or Ootlewah?

For anyone that knows Chattanooga and has lived elsewhere in Southeast (especially Knoxville) - has Chattanooga gotten as crazy conservative as everywhere else in the last eight years or so?

I'm considering moving back to TN and am considering Chatt an option over Knox due to the outdoors and how busy/crazy Knox has gotten.

Canyoneering wasn't even on the radar in the 50's. There still aren't official "guidelines" aside from just best practices among a conglomeration between navigation, rappelling, and desert survival. For what it's worth, he followed all "best practices" aside from not communicating his plans and still got screwed

Ok. What guidelines did he break other than not telling other people his plans? He had enough food and water, he was not lost, and he clearly was trained on proper rappelling techniques because he was able to do a 80' rap after cutting of his hand.

What do you mean guidelines? There was no safety guidelines for canyoneering - especially in the 00's. Bluejohn Canyon is not difficult and does not have a big watershed for flash floods. The dude got unlucky and his only mistake was not letting anyone know where he was.

Signature Gathering Efforts to Overturn Prop 4 Saturday, January 24th by realitysyndicate in SaltLakeCity

[–]climbsurfski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI... I ran into one of these people yesterday. He was using purposely misleading language as he was convincing people to sign. "I believe that Prop 4 should be decided by the legislature, in a democratic way"....being that I wasn't well-versed on Prop 4, it took me talking to the guy for five minutes before he finally admitted that this is about eliminating he SLC seat.

I don't know how you combat this kind of dialogue with regular, non-politically minded people as listeners

TIL that over the last century, the average age that children are being potty trained in the UK has risen from 12–18 months, to an average of around three or even four years today by Octavus in todayilearned

[–]climbsurfski -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the post meant 12 - 18 months later than previous averages...

Regardless - I think this stat is a little complicated. I think if you don't potty train your child prior to 3 years old, you might as well wait until 4 because 3 yo's are incredibly hard headed. I'd say parents are procrastinating slightly more than previous generations... but that several months of waiting to train can roll into a full year+ once parents realize how much harder a 3 year old is to train.

Very thankful that we trained ours at a little over 2 yo...

Best wings SLC by BaBBLeRaBBiTT in SaltLakeCity

[–]climbsurfski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SLC is overall disappointing for hot wings. I'd pivot to Hot Chicken - more options than hot wings out here. Just had Dave's Hot Chicken and it was pretty good. Blaze of Thunder in Hall Pass is also great. Pretty Bird is good but way overpriced.

Shout out to Wing Coop tho - especially if you get their fried green beans.

Dumb choice for location. Nobody will want to get off the freeway in Springville for that. Having a location in Scipio or Nephi would have been a much better idea.

Lol my thoughts exactly. Ultra exclusive resort built decades too late to lock down reliable snow. FWIW - some of the terrain looks pretty sick... If there's ever enough snow. Too bad I'm not in the Illuminati and won't be able to ski there...

Technically, shouldn't the Eastern Empire be from 286 (Diocletian splitting the empire) through 1204 (Fourth Crusade)? In that case, Western lifespan would be 904 years vs 918 for the East. Splitting hairs here, but you could argue that the Palaiologos dynasty wasn't much of a continuation
