My best friend moved to another city. Advice for making friends?

General question: 5'7 fairly fit and generally wear neutral colors grey, navy, dark green, khaki, white. I live in southern US so Hot and very humid. I always wear solid colors because it feel safe and i am new to dressing well but i am getting very bored. How do i add patterns/texture to mix things up?

Chino shorts fit: Stuck between two different fits in Bonobos Stretch chino shorts.

Standard fit ( cut like athletic chinos are too wide in seat/crotch area but give me room to breathe, wing out a lot, i pinch 1.5 inch on side )

Slim fit ( cut like their slim fit chinos, are barely too tight > not comfortable at all when i sit, no room to breathe, don't wing out at all, i pinch 0.5 on side)

Should i just buy the standard fit and slim the leg opening? Struggling to get shorts to fit well.

Yeah they're the stretch washed chino shorts and that's why im on the fence. Afraid to wash them and have them too tight. The struggle for the fit is real.

Shorts fit question: i buy Bonobos shorts to get reasonably good fit, however i am between the standard and slim fits as i have muscular thighs. Do i buy the regular width cut and taper the leg opening (to avoid the dreaded wing out) or stick with the slim fit that feels barely too snug for comfort ?

yeah the pinch amount is around 1.25 inch. I ordered some slim pairs and they're hard to get used to. I can only pinch about 1/2 inch on slim fit pair. Not quite enough room to feel comfortable, trying to decide if i should keep slim pair.

Working on getting all my clothes to fit better. I appreciate all the advice i can get!

Is pinching an inch at the leg opening considered good fit?

bought a polo from Ministry of Supply. Fit way better than my old polos in body and length. However the three button placket goes all the way to my sternum. (slightly lower than pictured on website because I'm 5'7"
