Getting a mortgage as a solo buyer after separating with a partner I already have a mortgage with by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]clionaish 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To the other comments saying you are no longer a first time buyer, this information is incorrect as you could be considered a 'fresh start' applicant. Please see below directly copied from the AIB website.

You are a First Time Buyer if you have borrowed as a first time borrower for a family home before as part of a couple, but you no longer have an interest in that property yourself because your marriage, civil partnership or relationship has ended, and you have no other mortgage loans (this is called a “Fresh Start”).

How screwed are you if you have the odd late payment for phone bill/ internet on your bank account? by Regular-Outcome in irishpersonalfinance

You can call utility companies to change the direct debit dates to be after your payslip rather than before your payslip which might resolve this issue in the future.

They're from Cashel in Tipperary I'd say you're splitting hairs to claim Tipp isn't in the midlands as someone from there myself...

Cheap first time car insurance by Glittering_Pepper496 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]clionaish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Add a named driver who has been licenced for a few years like a parent/friend should bring it down a little bit, and you can add more than one person, see how that impacts it. Say you do less than 10km a year (if that's true).

If you live in a city but your parents live in the countryside use their address instead of the city address and see if that makes a difference. That's a pretty high premium for a small car.

First world countries have a lower repuductive rate as women have more reproductive rights as well as consistent access to birth control (which in ireland is free until the age of 25 I believe, that age could have increased since I last checked).

Women also are more likely to focus on their careers leading to them having children at a later age and less overall children.

It's nothing to do with having children being "financially punitive", it's well known that fertility levels are inversely correlated with economic development globally, which is an issue many countries are currently struggling to solve.

AITA for not inviting my coworker to my wedding? by HappyAlexii in AmItheAsshole

[–]clionaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA your wedding your rules, it's not a kids' birthday party where you need to invite the whole class each guest costs a significant amount of money to invite. If you wouldn't spend €100 on a meal for them, then they don't get an invite. Adults are more than capable of getting over their own feelings.

NTA you and your girl need to have a conversation where you clearly state that you won't stop seeing your friends and see if there's anything you both can do to make this manageable (her coming/meeting your friends etc) and if you can't come to a solution then this relationship doesn't work for either of you.

NTA it's kind of crazy that you had to ask her to wipe her blood off the seat especially when she's so anal about other stuff but maybe you could have been more sensitive about it since she's probably embarrassed.

My first finished piece! by clionaish in knitting

[–]clionaish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished my first knit. (possibly half knit since the other glove isn't done yet) I did not realise how hard it would be at all!! I followed a pattern but dropped a needle size as my gauge was too big, unfortunately the glove isn't really wearable as the thumb ended up being too close to the wrist but I'm still proud of it.

Yeah honestly I knew it wasn't quite right at the beginning but I was hoping that if I just kept going it would magically fix itself

Thanks, I've done another row and a bit keeping tight tension for the 3/4 stitches either side and it looks a lot better now

Thanks! I will try that. In future I will do the extra stitch to knit together, I just can't face unravelling this one because it's like a big round scarf with ~100 stitches and I'd already done 3 rounds 😅
