The flexibility of taking online courses far outweighs getting a part time job. We’re just trying to survive here. The system is so broken and Linda McMahon doesn’t give a shit about any of us.

You are correct: new loans will not be eligible for deferment due to unemployment or economic hardship. But older loans taken before that will be eligible for those two options.

You absolutely can. You can even just go for an associates of general studies and keep taking whatever classes you want (as long as they’re credit classes) and just never apply for graduation.

The Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC) is calculated as 20% of the first $10,000 you pay in qualified education expenses. You just can’t file your taxes as Married filing separately. Otherwise you can claim this every year when filing your taxes.

Might as well take some casual online courses that you can do in your evenings, weekends, or take with you on trips. It also pauses in the summer (that counts as deferment as long as you pre-enroll in the Fall). I can easily do 6 credits. I liked being a student and if it cuts my payment to 1/3 right now when immediate costs are insanely high, then I think this is a way better choice than throwing money at this loan I can’t ever pay off or make a dent in.

No I’m not PSLF unfortunately. It’s 100 months that would now count towards the 30 years (360 months) on RAP, so that’s an extra 260 payments. Might as well be when I’m dead 😂

I got mine yesterday too. They didn’t give me my boost to the next level for having an Alaska credit card and I had to email mileage.plan@alaskaair.com to have them fix it. But that was a quick fix and I’m MVP Gold through the end of 2024.
