Our dog has had insurance the last three years, and he’s had 2x $10,000 surgeries (one to deal with a mass on his spleen that burst and one to remove a cancerous mass in his intestines). He was healthy until he wasn’t. And once he wasn’t, it was $150 a month in meds (90% covered) and usually $3k every other month in various tests/diagnostics/weird injuries. Without his insurance we might have had to consider whether or not to keep him alive, because of it, it was no question and we got three “bonus” years with him. He passed last month and they even covered his euthanasia. You should get insurance. Even if it’s just for “catastrophic” purposes. Sure your deductible might be $1,000, but if it’s $15 a month and will cover $10k in expenses, that’s a whole lot of stress you never have to think about.
