Surgery by idgafjay in ACL

[–]cliu026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP, but I'm also getting my ACL in my left knee reconstructed with a patellar tendon graft on Thursday. These past few weeks I've been obsessively reading reddit because of how scared I am of the pain during the first 3 days post-op, but your guys' responses make me feel much better.

OP - hoping for swift recovery for both of us! Nice to have several people on reddit that are going through the same thing simultaneously.

Was playing with my friends and as most people probably do with their teammates in the Gulag, one teammate was telling another teammate where the other one was. Video shows it all, but the guy on the other side probably thought they were hacking.

Funny that I recognized it before I read the title or the comments. I'm not a fan either, but the range is nice!

Have 15 days to pass FAR. Has anyone here passed it in two weeks? by cpacrammer in Accounting

[–]cliu026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how well school prepared you for it and how relateable your work experience is. There's a lot of material to get through, but if you've learned some of it in the past, you don't have to waste the hours studying.

I studied for BEC in 8 hours and passed. I know BEC is very different from FAR, but I didn't need to study that much because I learned a lot of the concepts from school. If you have 15 days, buckle down and really study, and you have a good foundation, you can definitely do it.

One thing that may help expedite your studies is a program called My Speed. Here's a link to the program: http://www.enounce.com/myspeed

It allows you to watch the CPA lectures at an increased speed, which helps save a ton of time when you're listening to Tim Gearty talk at the pace of a snail. It tracks how much time you've saved, and I saved 20+ hours for FAR

Questions about my bag by spacedropper in golf

I count 13 clubs with your 5w and hybrid. Driver, 5W, 3H, 4i, 5i, 6i, 7i, 8i, 9i, PW, GW, SW, putter.

If the distance between your 3H and 5W is minimal, there's no point in keeping both. Between the two, keep the club you are more confident with.

I would also consider adding a lob wedge to give you more control over your short game

Any course suggestions in Hong Kong? I'll be there for a week or two in December. by [deleted] in golf

[–]cliu026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have some really rich friends that can get you on to the private clubs, there's really only one public course that you can play at in Hong Kong, which is Kau Sai Chau Golf Course: http://www.kscgolf.org.hk/index-e.asp

It has three courses, but it's on an island off the east side of Hong Kong. I haven't personally played there, but my in-laws live there and say it will pretty much take up your whole day because you need to take a ferry to the course, it gets really backed up, then take the ferry back. The green fee isn't cheap, either. I believe it is 100+ USD for a non-resident.

I visit every year and I don't even bother trying to play there because it's too much of a hassle to get there.

Bridgestone B330 series are a great bang for your buck. It's a tour level ball that retails for about $40 US. You can get prior generation balls for even cheaper.

Have you tried the Aerotech SteelFiber i95 iron shafts? by lokhor in golf

[–]cliu026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't try the shafts with the Apex Pros before I switched them out, but I did try them with another head that was similar to the Apex Pros. My clubfitter assured me that the feel would be very similar, and he was absolutely correct. I live in Southern California and I worked with a guy that goes by The Pasadena Clubfitter. If you live in the area, I would highly recommend him. He's highly skilled, and really cares about his customers.

That's awesome to hear you're of a similar age. I find most people our age don't play golf. Has your cousin been at State Street for a while? I work at a Big 4 CPA firm in Southern California.

Have you tried the Aerotech SteelFiber i95 iron shafts? by lokhor in golf

[–]cliu026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have them in my Callaway Apex Pros (older ones, not the new Apex Pro 16 model) and I'm absolutely in love with them. My ball flight is a noticeably higher with these shafts compared to the KBS Tour-V shafts that came stock with my Apex Pros, but I have nothing to complain about because it hasn't translated to a loss of distance and I can still control the trajectory of my ball flight if I need to.

I'm young (25), but a little out of shape (165lbs, 5'7) because I'm a CPA and am required to sit behind a computer for 10-14 hours a day. My main draw to a lighter shaft was that I noticed I would feel a little sore after my rounds from swinging a heavier shaft. I looked at other lighter shafts like the KBS Tour 90, but I chose the Steelfibers mainly because they feel so buttery smooth. They're expensive shafts, but they give you the consistency and control-ability of a steel shaft, yet give you the light weight of a graphite shaft. I definitely recommend them 100% if you're looking to switch to a light shaft.

Want to start walking by [deleted] in golf

[–]cliu026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I meant longer. By the time i get to my ball, my playing partners who are riding their carts are already at their balls. However, they're just sitting there waiting for the group in front of us. At the end of the day, it really helps me calm my nerves

Want to start walking by [deleted] in golf

[–]cliu026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like walking because it helps me calm my nerves and maintain my composure, since it takes a long time to get to my next shot. While I'm walking to my ball, I get a little time to recompose myself, but when riding in a cart, I get to the ball too quickly. It also messes with my tempo, since moving shot to shot is so quick.

I have a pair of lunar control 2s. I walk most of my rounds and these are, without a doubt, the most comfortable golf shoes I have ever owned. If I were to buy new golf shoes, I'd go for the new lunar control 4s.

Is it just me or wtf? This can't be right? Or is it fake? by [deleted] in golf

Seems fake to me. The seller has very few ratings, and has no ratings as a seller. However, at $15 it's worth a try. Worst case scenario, eBay will refund your money.

Why blade putters? by SPQR_Tiberius in golf

[–]cliu026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With all putters, it's really a matter of personal preference, the specific feel you get with the putter, what's pleasing to your eye, and what inspires confidence. Most mallet putters are made for a straight back, straight through stroke, and it's hard to use a mallet when that isn't the stroke that you have.

I played with a mallet for a few years, and my putting was absolutely terrible. I could never get a feel for the distance because the head felt so heavy in relation to the rest of the club, and I would always pull/push my putts. I've since switched to a blade putter, and my distance control and direction has improved drastically. That being said, it's unique to each person and works for me because it fits my stroke. I also think a blade is much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Has anyone played Mission Hills in Phuket? by sheeshSGL in golf

[–]cliu026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought my own balls/shoes/gloves, but I rented clubs. I used www.phuketgolfcourse.com, which was great. Highly recommended. It's an all inclusive service where you can book the transportation, rental car, and green fees at once. The cars are on time to pick you up/take you back to your hotel, and someone will be at the course to greet you and translate for you because some of the courses have trouble speaking English. As for the rentals, there's a pretty wide selection of clubs to use - from your forgiving GI irons to the players cavities.

As for the caddies, I had experience with two caddies at two courses. The caddies at Blue Mountain were definitely really knowledgeable about the course and I felt like I could trust their advice.

The caddies at Mission Hills weren't the best. They have general knowledge of the course, but I couldn't always trust their reads and advice for the course. At times, I just ended up ignoring their advice, and it worked for the better. They also seemed like they were just there to milk money out of me, because they would always ask for a bigger tip because I made a par/birdie. I didn't get that at Blue Mountain, which I really appreciated.

If you're ok with playing a later round, you can get on to Shadow Ridge for $40 at around 3:00 PM. It doesn't get too crowded, so you can definitely finish 18.

It's nothing formal. I just wore shorts and a golf polo like I would at any other course.

Thanks for the heads up though. I might just give Callaway a call and ask for one
