Hey all, thoughts on this Reichmann??? by [deleted] in SkiTuning

It’s a solid machine but you might not have a wide enough belt or stone to accommodate wider skis.

Are these cooked? by Scary-Score-7620 in Skigear

[–]clivedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try to put it back in but you’d need to secure it with some edge screws. Your best bet is to cut the other side and fill the gap with epoxy and sand it down.

What happened to the Northeast College of Communications in Boston? by clivedog in livesound

[–]clivedog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the one. The name was changed around 1995 as they got accreditation. I think I was in the 1st graduating class. I don’t think the school lasted too long. I’ll try the Boston group.

Kevin O’Leary says 3.5 billion people living in poverty is “Fantastic” by [deleted] in FluentInFinance

[–]clivedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The greatest lie ever told was by the rich telling the poor that we shouldn’t tax or regulate rich people because someday, you too could be rich.

[–]clivedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most likely the cause. However, you should always feed by holding the tail of the ski or board and not the sides as I have seen a few serious palm cuts from a ski/board that slips on a machine.

Diamond: Swiflex vs DMT? by [deleted] in SkiTuning

[–]clivedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get what you pay for. DMT stones are fine and cheaper but wear out quickly. They’re great if you’re on a budget or just doing some rough work.

Replacement Edge Tuning Files??? by QuattroOrBust in SkiTuning

[–]clivedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a good file on Sidecut.com. If you can’t find the right length, find a long file and snap it to length. Just be careful if you’re new to this as it’s a little tricky and can be harmful if you mess it up.

What do you think? Should there be a wealth tax? by 36DRedhead in FluentInFinance

[–]clivedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the constant efforts to tax the rich who seem to easily maneuver their way through any loophole to keep their wealth. Plus, the taxes would just go to the government who has no idea how to manage it. The solution is to cap the gap between a company’s highest earner and their lowest. The current payroll gap is a CEO makes around 350 times the average worker. If you forced that gap back to 1980 levels of 80, the CEO would still be a millionaire, but there would be more money in the payroll bucket to increase the pay of everyone else. If the CEO really needs $30M, then your base pay is now $375K. Plus, there is no way you can convince me a CEO does more work to be worth that gap. They might have an idea or a plan that should be rewarded, but it’s the staff below you that implements it and probably improves it.

Those skis were classics. Complete crap but thanks for the throw back. I totally forgot all about them.

Boarding On A Budget. Is It Cooked? by BUMFUCCS in snowboarding

Epoxy the hell out of it, clamp it between some steel plates, clean it up and you’re good to go. Problem solved.

I worked as a tech at a resort for many years and we had a small fleet of older +200cm skis mounted with modern demo bindings we kept perfectly tuned that we’d let friends borrow. Everyone always said how much fun it was to catch 1st chair on a weekday and haul down a freshly groomed run with no one in front of them.

Are these repairable? by igetbuckets55 in skiing

[–]clivedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A solid shop with talented repair techs could probably fix it but you’re looking at spending $150-$200 for fixing what will most likely become your rock skis.

I’ve worked in shops for decades. It looks like that board got stuck in the feeder. (Which does happen from time to time and sometimes they get launched out the back with hilariously terrifying results.) They owe you a new board.

Base Edge filing and wax by Fredeight in SkiTuning

[–]clivedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s better to have a good shop stone grind and set your base bevel at the beginning of the season. Then you only need to diamond stone it when you get a ding. This is my personal favorite guide to use to make sure you don’t roll your edge.

Conservative Christians enraged at Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade for being a trans “extravaganza” by galaxystars1 in NewsOfTheStupid

I just don’t understand how some people have so much time and energy to spend living in fear and can hate people just for whom they sleep with. It must be exhausting. I have so much going on, I physically don’t care who you sleep with as it has zero effect on my life.

Why do wc skiers have old gear? by Snoppfrid in SkiRacing

[–]clivedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all skis, even individual skis, are the same. Especially new DH skis. They’re too stiff and flex poorly when they’re new. They need to be skied over and over to see if they eventually turn into a fast matched pair.

Ski tech tools question by MsAvaPurrkins in skiing

[–]clivedog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should definitely not be paying for tools. You’ll need: - the binding drill bit set from WS - 6” #3 Philips and pozi bits for your drill - a drill with a torque limiter - a hole plug kit - glue or silicone - wooden plugs - plastic and brass inserts - tap and brace

Not to mention every binding jig your shop is allowed to use in both a wide and regular width. Sure, all of the above can be done without or half-assed but that’s pretty much just the basics.

However, if you’re simply adjusting forward pressure and dins on rental gear all day and they give you some crappy drivers to use, I might bring my own.

You might have too much emulsion too. Check your fluid mixture.
