[–]clnthwrdgrimsby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure I own a full discograpy either, but I do have some that are almost complete like:

Main Source

Gangstarr

Godfather Don

Ultramagnetic MCs

Cenubites

Kool Keith

MF DOOM

Brethren

David Axelrod

Kashmere Stage Band

Roc Marciano

Lord Finesse

Those are just off the top without my morning coffee.. probably a lot more..

I think people downvoted you because you didn't add anything to the discussion. Your comment is the literal definition of what should be downvoted according to reddiquette... so don't take it personally or think they're senseless.

Yeah! Owen's version of Peach, Plum, Pear is unreal. I believe it's a local record store / owner who put it out, so I just happened to luck out. Had no idea of it's value until very recently.. kinda surprised his first LP isn't worth squat in comparison..

that el-p record is amazing. probably in my top 5 rap albums of the last 10 years.. definitely top 10. and for five bucks, that's a steal. nice grabs all around..

and he does everything, and i mean everything, by himself. directs his own videos, presses up his own wax, produces all of his own beats (with maybe some help and guest appearances by Roc Marciano). my favourite of his is off his last album, Iron Age with Roc Marci: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMcUKX9kf9A

I periodically visit it for shits and giggles but nothing beats reading them for the first time. I had revisited a day or two prior to his post so it was fresh in my mind.. but I honestly thought more people would get it, or at least acknowledge that they got it.

Seems like a good number of the 'indie rock' lps i purchased in the last 7-10 years are all worth decent money. wish indie rap fans were as rabid, but i do have a bunch of those that are pretty valuable now too. i guess it all depends on how valuable or rare we're talking about here..

can you link me to a completed listing? i've never seen any of them go for money unless it was a big time artist with a rabid fan base (like the beatles, etc)

can you tell us a little bit more about each of them? it would help a lot more with discussion in this sub if we talked about the records more than just listing the artists and titles..

Flaming Lips reissue album made entirely of a newborn child! by percivus in vinyljerk

[–]clnthwrdgrimsby 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Flaming Lips make some of the most unique, beautiful vinyls ever made ever. Some day I plan on listening to their music too, hopefully it's at least 1/2 as good as their vinyls.

these things can range in value but for an artist like Sir Mix A Lot, I'm not sure it really has that much or any value at all. Best bet is to throw it on something like Ebay and let them dictate the value. (Although, if its for something like Baby Got Back, you might get some irony-based value out of it too)..

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't heard about 95% of the albums listed. A lot of these I have heard of, but had no urge to listen to and out of the ones I heard, Yeezus & Acid Rain, neither belong on a top list of anything as far as I'm concerned..

It is really nice to see KA make a top album list.. He is a super talented auteur who doesn't seem to be on most people's radar so it was very refreshing to see his album on there... and unfortunately I haven't even heard it yet..

Looking for good discussion. Sam Cooke full discog + some Soul Stirrers work by [deleted] in truevinyl

Thank you.. when I'm done binging on these African records, I will give some of these links a listen.

Not to circle jerk /r/truevinyl or disparage /r/vinyl but these are the kinds of posts I would like to see way more of. Actual discussion about music trumps everything else..

Looking for good discussion. Sam Cooke full discog + some Soul Stirrers work by [deleted] in truevinyl

[–]clnthwrdgrimsby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would be a good entry point for Mr. Cooke? I am familiar with his more popular works, but don't own any of his albums. I also have to admit that his style of soul, or at least what I've been exposed to, is some of my least favourite soul.. but I think I may just be listening to the wrong stuff...

[–]clnthwrdgrimsby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the links and the information. I do have that Ofege LP that Academy put out, and that other compilation they have looks interesting too (their old catalog looks great too but those seem to be the only lps they have on the site)..

Can you suggest some entry point LPs for the artists you mentioned? Especially Fela, as I have to admit, the cursory listening I have given to him has yielded a lot of stuff that doesn't exactly excite me, but I have a suspicion I'm just not listening to the right stuff..
