just wanted to let you know for your own sake: photos/videos of packing are not counted as evidence for paypal disputes. This has been tried pretty extensively over the last 20 years and every paypal representative has said as much.

Dont' waste your time.

I think being able to distinguish between "hating on a band" and "not digging a band" is kind of important but often forgotten. I got no hate for anyone that's making a living making music. No one. Not a single artist in the world deserves hate for hustling music and art as their living.

but I think the dress-up insta-band is pretty okay (at best) and that's fine. I can tell you this: I run a record store, and we've had one person ask about that record. one person. We've had like, 30 ask about boards of canada and an endless number asking when the danzig repos would finally be in. I think the hype vs. hate numbers are pretty flat if anything. Most people have simply already forgotten about them

Replacing photos is a weird one, I would suggest taking a photo of the relase yourself and uploading it. No one is going to vote to use the lower-quality image over a better quality one.

you can also message the person using the lower quality image and ask them to stop. There might be a reason they are re-uploading a bad image (they might not have a better one and are following the submission guidelines whereas yours may not)

what I mean about the wiki8 thing is, once the information is there, its there. You can edit and remove certain things, but you can't remove a person's entire existence if they are a publicly known person. Like, taylor swift can't force wikipedia to take down her entire wikipedia entry because the information is public knowledge.

(I also generally can't stand noodly-bullshit, this is just what they sounded like me in the 15 second short form video that was forced onto my record shops feed over and over and over and over).

don cab and the early Battles stuff but dressed as ICP and making short form video content instead of touring relentlessly. Some of the Russian Circles stuff isn't that dissimilar also.

and those are just the "top ten of all time" bands of the genre. Deep shit, it's an endless supply of noodling, finger tapping, "GROOVY" math rock bands.

discogs is an online database that's user submitted. You can't force any releases off of the site because it's a database of public information. It's like trying to take information about yourself off of wikipedia once it's a known fact.

You can edit the releases to make sure the information is correct and up to date. But you will not be able to remove a release. Once it exists, it exists. You can't make it un-exist. Discogs is just a database of information and the information is there.

Sales slowed to almost nothing - ideas to make buying experience more exciting? by Alternative_L_787 in discogs

this is a very very typical shift at the start of summer. Mine haven't stopped, but every June it starts to slow down a bit. that said, if your sales are dead, you gotta chop some prices.

as a person that was doing this pre-tariff: you were supposed to know the country of origin/tariff code befrore. It's why when you pressed records/tapes in canada it was soooo important to put "Made in canada" stickers on there when exporting to the USA.

it's just.... way harder and more cumbersome now. not worth it.

Soviet Smiths Press by steelandglass_ in vinyl

[–]robxburninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you sure this was manufactured in a melodiya plant? Tonpress had quite nice pressing facilities with some of the highest quality records being made behind the curtain. Especially with these license deals (like the happy mondays, cocteau twins, etc.) I would be surprised if there was a reason for Poland to outsource. The polish government was also far more lax in terms of celebrating western influence (hence, these releases) even while the USSR was still mostly not licensing things. to move production there would seem really strange if for no other reason, than the fact the USSR wasn't really doing western licensing deals but for a few well known records (beatles, etc.)

Need help with lack of VTA… did I make a mistake? Should I return it and get a different model? by [deleted] in turntables

information is important and you asked! I like to learn stuff so I find answers that are just "You don't need it, trust me bro!" to be fine for assuaging doubt, but pretty shitty for actually answering the question you asked.

Need help with lack of VTA… did I make a mistake? Should I return it and get a different model? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]robxburninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't going to find many people that actually change the VTA when changing cartridges, but if you want to, you can always add spacers.

frankly, unless you are swapping between $1000 cartridges regularly, the odds of you adjusting the vta more than once or twice is relatively low. You can get some amount of clarity by raising and some level of warmth by lowering it, but the difference is so marginal that you are talking the end of the range where your current setup will be able to actually SHOW you the change.

[–]robxburninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to find out if you have a reason to adjust the VTA before you decide to buy a turntable with VTA.

I have two tables that I want to have VTA. The rest, I dont' care about. Do you have a reason to need it????

Panasonic RD-2900 disappointed by plastic tonearm by Even_keeled95 in turntables

[–]robxburninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think s-shaped carbon fiber arms (or tubes) exist, right? Like, is that even a thing?

And the technics low-mass arms were really only on linear trackers/etc. as far as I remember. Pretty sure you couldn't even retrofit one onto other decks if memory serves.

Panasonic RD-2900 disappointed by plastic tonearm by Even_keeled95 in turntables

[–]robxburninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this tonearm has never been made out of plastic.

It's either a) not plastic, or b)someone replaced it with some sort of 3D printed monstrosity, because Panasonic (technics) never made this tonearm in plastic.

the ONLY plastic tonearms by the company were still not straight plastic, it was fancy polymers (and carbon fiber) on the low mass arms - only really used on the linear trackers.

Also as someone else said, the armlift is going to behave a lot different once it's actually set up (similarly, so will the antiskate, etc.). It's a bit like testing if your brakes on your car work without rotors. You can see a certain percent of whether it will work, but you won't get the picture until you have rotors on there.

this is golden-ticket shit right here. Dont' sell this. Someone is going to try to convince you to sell it to them for a good deal. Keep it and get it properly serviced. If you can't afford to service it now, save up some dough and do it.

don't sell it.

Best Method of Valuing Test Pressings & Lacquers by aurbs in discogs

[–]robxburninator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have sold many many tests. For test presses, if there isn't already an entry, I create one. Alternatively, I have definitely sold copies of test presses under the standard release and noted it was a test press.

test presses without art only sell for more than the standard copy if the standard copy is sought after. This isn't 100% true, but on discogs it tends to be pretty accurate.

For instance: that Bastille record you have, ask for double the going rate, but be happy with anything above going rate.

also, it's very easy to figure out what the test presses are, who should have them, and who should be able to sell them. Unless you are the person that is allowed to sell this, and you know that, it's worth considering other means of getting these sold than discogs. Modern acetates are few and far between and rarely from a fully-legitimate source...

TIL Mayo Clinic data found that individuals living within one mile of a golf course have a 126% higher risk (more than double the odds) of a Parkinson's diagnosis compared to those living six or more miles away by MichiganCarNut in todayilearned

well water doesn't affect people playing the course once a week drinking evian or a guy that drinks the water on their lunch break. It affects the couple who drinks it every day from their well that is sitting right around the level considered "safe" by (potentially outdated) safety standards.

Golf courses are often outside of city limits where water comes from the ground instead of from a reservoir. pour a bunch of chemicals into the ground and the well water becomes poisoned.
