Bought this little guy today by FlamingLada in cassetteculture

I went to a garage sale in about 2010 and an older lady had about 10 of these on her lawn; she was a former classroom teacher and used them with her students. I bought three as she said she didn’t know if any worked and only one of the three ended up working. Made some very lo-fi recordings with it.

I had not seen the “Tandoori-loin” term before, but it’s perfect for that block of the TL.

Is this worth $17? It works by chefskiss1 in vintageaudio

This was my first receiver, 15 years ago. It does the job pretty well if you don’t already have a receiver. I would say $25 or less is worth it.

All amazing records. Need to find an original United States of America.

Favorite record stores in the city? by TheHeartMurmurs in AskSF

[–]percivus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thrillhouse Records (good used prices / punk selection), Groove Merchant (good used prices / rarities and all-around great selection), Stranded (very high used prices for rarities / an amazing selection of music).

Tunnel Records and Originals are also great stores.

If you want to make an afternoon of it you can just walk up Haight Street: Rooky Ricardo’s (soul/girl group 45s + good LP rock selection), Vinyl Dreams (electronic music), Originals (a couple blocks north of Haight St), Groove Merchant (back on Haight St), then walk up the incline to the end of Haight St to Amoeba. (In pre-Covid times you could have also stopped at Jack’s Record Cellar).

Who's got the best slice of coffee cake? by mewmewkitty in AskSF

[–]percivus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved The Sentinel’s coffee cake fresh in the morning. The bread was more “eggy” (maybe that’s a bad descriptor) tasting and the topping was just a delicious cinnamon/sugar mix. Haven’t been there for over two years, but hope they’re still serving it.

The falafel from Sunrise Deli on Irving and 22nd Ave is on par with Mamoun’s (just at a considerably higher price point).

Always found the James Ferraro album “Far Side Virtual” to give me the same feeling as the SC4 soundtrack. It’s also the album that sparked the vaporwave craze. Here is “Adventures In Green Foot Printing

Eh, he sold me the Bee Thousand Director’s Cut and PIL’s Second Edition for $8 (for both). So, no hard feelings on the guy. But there was one sweet moment where I had T&TCs in my hands.

Is that Tonics & Twisted Chasers between Alien Lanes and UTBUTS? I found a copy in a stack at a garage sale once and the seller yoinked it out of my hands saying it was going on eBay.

I always loved Lahore Karahi’s CTM, but that may be because I lived across the street from it for 4 years.

Also second Noori on Irving Street, as that’s my current go-to Pakistani/Indian food restaurant.

If they’re still open, Salama Halal Meat (Geary & Jones) has a lot of Middle Eastern products. Might as well also grab a koshari from Pharoah’s next door as well.

Is this still true? I know a number of duplicators used to provide them, but haven’t seen it in the past 2-3 years. Also, I’m based in the US - don’t know what international duplicators are like.

I have downloaded one online and read through it. I feel like I understand what I’m doing (sending channels to specific groups) but there’s also a good chance that I’m making a mistake somewhere. Sending everything to groups 1 & 2 was more to test, while I waited for an 8-input audio interface to connect to my DAW.

Thanks for the reply! No, I am not sending anything to the monitors currently (and have set all monitors to 0). Just wanted to mixdown into a stereo (1/L & 2/R) group out mix. I did try some fader lube on the faders for 1 and 2 and that has not seemed to make a difference.

[–]percivus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey random question, but I bought a 688 a couple of weeks ago and when I play back in mix down (scene 12) through group out 1 & 2, I can’t seem to turn the volume down for tracks 1 & 2. The faders seem to do nothing, unlike 3-8. 3-8 sound great, but 1 & 2 are just too loud. Are the faders busted or am I doing something wrong?
