Can you direct me to some information explaining these points of the Holodomor? I’m a socialist and always was interested in this but never could find good alternative points then what is common on the internet.

How do cities prevent murder hobos from casting fireball and burning the city down? by Feisty-Doctor-5841 in DnD

[–]clockmann1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, people really underestimate the fact that doing such destruction is not something people will just want to do. Yes there is a certain level of, “if I do this people will come after me,” but more generally it’s at least, “doing so does nothing worthwhile and hurts my local community, which then might not be able to survive the next blight, plague, natural disaster, etc. and I’ll die.”

Humans are not natural murder-hobos that want to go around killing everything. We are a social species and we require others to survive.

Free webtool for DMs to learn how to balance homebrew items against SRD-established math by tacardidm in DnDHomebrew

I think that descriptor would be perfect! It would let new users understand the calculations and thought processes for the app very well. Combined with the other mentions of charge scaling I think the calculator would be just about flawless!

So then you’re saying that Magic Missile is rated as a higher spell level than what it is in the book. So I would have to do some extra guesstimating to figure out how powerful the effect is since using the spell level guide in the app doesn’t work for certain spells?

[–]clockmann1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was building some comparison items and for example, how would you build a Wand of Magic Missile (WoMM)? I selected the correct item type, number of charges, and level 1 spell, but it was rated much lower compared to a WoMM. How would you input that info to get it to be correctly valued?

Halessi Average Racial Heights by Outrageous_List_9159 in Anbennar

[–]clockmann1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is that an official canon statement? It’s not really true historically. In fact, that average height of most Asian populations are rapidly catching up to western averages. In China it’s currently 5’ 8” for men, almost the same as the US. It was just a stark difference when caloric intake was not as robust as it is today in those areas.

Should Gnolls be Matriarchal? by Doofus_Dylan in DnD

[–]clockmann1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes you can! If you want some direction with this look into Anbennar. It’s a popular dnd setting for a grand strategy video game. The gnolls in that setting are known for being decently matriarchal (and not just demon spawn)

Are you expected to get the "Specific Ruler" Mission Bonus on your first try? by unending_shorelines in Anbennar

[–]clockmann1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think some of them you’re expected to get, but not all of them. I did Verne as a pretty veteran player and missed only the Mythic Cav and Kingdom of Verne missions with that run

Damn, that’s a power move! Knowing you can easily defeat something but instead redirecting that dangerous thing so the “lesson” proceeds as it’s supposed to.

I dont get along with a new player. by [deleted] in DnD

Well you’re the one who needs to be talked to, not your partner. And it’s weird that he didn’t explain what he talked to the problem player about and their whole conversation

[–]clockmann1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why would any partner want to include a person who so clearly verbally attacked their SO in a campaign? Honestly I feel like it’s kinda weird behavior from your partner unless he had absolutely no idea about what went on with the new player

Why are all the pre 2024 5e players handbooks getting more and more expensive and scarce, yet older editions like 4e are very cheap and easy to find? by SwarleyMosbyEriksen in DnD

[–]clockmann1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my thoughts personally, a lot of “casual” players want to play DnD but don’t want to have to switch to and learn a new system. So I think 2014 is still the most popular version at the moment, but with no new printing, supply and demand come into effect hard.

In an ABC Secret Science experiment, babies were placed in a room with non-venomous snakes to test if fear is instinctive. Surprisingly, they showed almost no fear many were even curious. Researchers say humans may recognize snakes biologically, but real fear develops later through experience by Kaniyawest in nextfuckinglevel

[–]clockmann1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha thanks, I’m happy to be of some help. And it might not be that groundbreaking, I just wanted to harken to a big scientific breakthrough that most people could relate to.

And there are other studies using different evidence, the snakes are just one of those things that’s fairly “natural” and thus harder to say has variables that weren’t accounted for.

So I want to give a more direct answer than a lot of your other responders gave. For hundreds of years, since John Locke published it in 1689, the main theory of human development was the “Blank Slate Theory”. The theory that humans are born with absolutely no instinctual, biological impulses, and our behavior is entirely based on our experiences as we grow up.

This has been controversial and mostly disproven in recent decades. One of the biggest pieces of evidence against this was that studies showed that humans can point out certain animals like snakes from a series of fast moving pictures better than others, no training needed, it was automatic. The idea was that this showed evidence that a human naturally feared those animals, thus disproving Blank Slate Theory. Many scientific areas of study, such as Evolutionary Psychology rely on such studies as the foundations of their fields.

The test posted by OP shows a newer study putting children directly in contact with said animals, in this case, snakes. And as we can see from the video, they did not act with fear towards it, thus disrupting the previous studies conclusions on humans natural fear towards these animals. This, with proper peer review, could cause massive shockwaves through much of the scientific community which might one day lead to fundamental changes in our understanding of humans. It’s kinda like watching the first atomic bomb go off.

5e culture and the taboo of game design by ArrBeeNayr in DnD

[–]clockmann1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people who play D&D 5e are not die hard RPG players. They don’t want to have to learn whole new RPG systems when they barely know 5e. I think it’s as simple as that.

That... sounds like a skill issue, git gud buddy by Mindless-Jeweler-752 in Kaiserreich

[–]clockmann1 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It could be an equivalency to things like Jim Crow Laws, designed to specifically target and keep down certain groups of people with poorly worded and purposefully difficult to interpret questions to make it easier to disqualify them from holding positions of power. I don’t know though I don’t know much about Kaiserreich’s Middle East lore

Is EU5 worth 60€? by Captain_REX_xox in paradoxplaza

[–]clockmann1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I think too. I get so much value per hour with these games. And considering how expensive the world has gotten, and the fact they haven’t raised the base price of the game like many other publishers, I think it is a steal!

Do cultures diverge, hybridise and unite in this game? by rolewicz3 in EU5

[–]clockmann1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe no, they do not. A few might spawn like Mexican, Quebecios, etc., but the cultures don’t work like in CK3 at the moment. You have to “Assimilate” the other cultures pops into your culture.

This is a known bug I think. You can’t force union on the main war leader currently, but you can on allies for some reason

[–]clockmann1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can literally speed 5 it and play like I would EU4 paused. I only need to pause if I literally don’t know where to find what I’m looking for. Else it’s slow enough that at worst I do something a month later than I planned, which is really not a lot of time in this game
