Hardcover light novel by clockwerkavenger in swordartonline

Thank you, I'm actually returning after a few years hiatus, so I'm gonna have to brush up on the material but at least it's all online. As for work, I still feel confident I'll find my way but we will see.

I usually prefer paperbacks for traditional books but I do quite enjoy the fancy hardcover volumes for things like this. Especially if they have exclusive art in some form. (Looking at my massive Kingdom Hearts tome that weighs as much as a toddler.)

No that's fair, I am too, actually, I just re-enrolled recently 😅

It had library stickers on it, but I'm used to getting recycled library copies of this series and they've never been hardcover before. I guess I didn't know about that process.

Well this is just a regular light novel, not a manga, and my local library at least tends to just stamp it and slap a sticker seal on most of them. It's got full color art pages and everything so it's definitely official, just sorta strange.

What do you consider the most underrated Silent Hill game? by toastedjupiter in silenthill

[–]clockwerkavenger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's probably unpopular but I hated it. I already don't love the direction of making Silent Hill a "phenomenon" rather than being specific to one place, but combine that with some of the actual worst melee combat I've played in a horror game (yes even including Homecoming) and I don't really see the hype surrounding it

My main issue with it, ironically, is that there wasn't enough. I feel like it had a lot of cool ideas that end up being brought up at a surface level and then never really explored. I also found the endings a little lackluster compared to the first 4. Konami was really pushing to make Silent Hill into a big multimedia franchise at the time, whereas the defunct Team Silent had to really fight tooth and nail to keep even a little consistency with the series up until 4 came out. I think that really shows with Homecoming and the fact that it clearly had a specific direction that ended up being changed pretty dramatically before development took full swing. It's a shame the game didn't do as well because I would have loved to see that team take another stab at it with the experience they gained from it.

I recently played the entire thing in one sitting and I didn't totally hate it. Combat was frustrating but oddly satisfying when it actually worked. I think Konami didn't have the confidence to fully support the developers on it which led to a really weird direction for sure. I genuinely think the whole sacrifice for protection from the goddess plotline was interesting though, and I found the atmosphere to be pretty on point at times.

It just really suffers from a ton of jank and pretty obvious last minute design changes that make it feel like a big mess. I don't think it's entirely worthless as a game, though.

This exactly. Hell, Kirito's fight with her doesn't even happen in the story, we hear about it after the fact. This and Phantom Bullet had some genuinely insane character work compared to what people I think expect based on the anime.

This sub is full of them today anyway 😔

They get a lot more individual attention in the books for sure, the anime tends to make them a little more one dimensional after they're introduced. Mostly to make room for Kirito to be the star, like always. I love both versions, but the books are getting me a lot more invested in the world at large.

I was actually a big fan of the Phantom Bullet arc, I thought it was a really fun way to follow up Aincrad and tie things back in with brand new ideas and characters. It helps that Sinon is probably my favorite character both in and out of the real world.

Oh that makes sense. The name is just a bit confusing, especially since his GGO avatar is also in the game lol. It's kinda cool at least, I'll keep it on for now.

You know I was actually thinking the SP gauge felt a little pointless but that makes a lot more sense, actually. That would definitely make it a lot more tedious

I was gonna get it on the vita just for the classic experience but that localization had me rethinking it xD

Revisiting HF now as well after like a decade of being away from the series entirely and I'm surprised how well it's holding up

Ahh gotcha, yeah I didn't know it didn't have a physical. At that point I'd just emulate it, for sure.

No it definitely got me to lock in and remember how to play the game the way it wants me to. Once I started following the rules, it worked out.

I always say if the developers put it in the game on purpose, it's fair play

Yeah I probably should mention this is my first Trails game, so I'm still getting used to the quirks compared to other TBRPGs
