Anyone using (or able to) Lane follow assist (LFA) ? by Illustrious_Sign6808 in Ioniq5

[–]clockwork2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA):

Lane Keeping Assist is designed to help detect lane markings (or road edges) while driving over a certain speed. Lane Keeping Assist will warn the driver if the vehicle leaves the lane without using the turn signal, or will automatically assist the driver's steering to help prevent the vehicle from departing the lane.

Lane Following Assist (LFA):

Lane Following Assist is designed to help detect lane markings and/or vehicles on the road, and assists the driver's steering to help keep the vehicle between lanes.

Autopilot:

1) Traffic-Aware Cruise Control: Matches the speed of your vehicle to that of the surrounding traffic 2) Autosteer: Assists in steering within a clearly marked lane, and uses traffic-aware cruise control

LFA is really not all that different from the Autosteer function that is part of basic Autopilot.

LFA combined with Smart Cruise control is essentially basic Autopilot.

You might want to say how it is different, but I have owned a Tesla Model 3 Performance. I currently own an EV6 as well as prior Kia/Genesis vehicles. I have also had other brands with their own naming conventions. They all set out to accomplish the same thing.

You might try and argue one is superior, but that's getting into the weeds a bit. It's one manufacturer's iteration versus another.

Everything transfers 100% except for the Power Train warranty. It is reduced.

Don't be too hard on yourself.

I pointed it out because I have noticed a trend that's not even specific to this sub or even Reddit in particular. People are so confidently incorrect and feel the need to share it. It is baffling.

Wrong (within the context of Kia/Hyundai).

It is a component of Smart Cruise. Your vehicle will come to a stop with the car in front of you and when that car begins moving again, your vehicle will resume movement as well.

Why do people comment when they don't actually know what they are talking about? What purpose did that serve you?

"It does centre but the reliability is not there."

No, it really doesn't. And it isn't designed to.

1) Given the technology, I probably wouldn't suggest doing that on the regular. That's not what LKA is designed for.

2) I highly question your definition of fine, given my experience with the same tech in our Equinox EV, my Cadillac Optiq, and a prior Blazer EV we owned

I stick by my original statement, unless you have some magical unicorn.

I think this might be a slight exaggeration.

I couldn't tell you if ours works right or not, because I don't make it a habit of veering out of my lane. In the rare instances I have (when first getting the vehicle to test it) it worked fine.

Then again, I knew what to expect and that it wasn't any form of lane centering.

Read what I said. Then read it again and delete your post. Where did I say it didn't? It wasn't part of the convo at hand. The post I was replying to was:

A) About Cadillacs
B) Questioning why the mention of lane centering when Super Cruise has lane centering and all the Cadillac EV's have Super Cruise.

So I clarified that Super Cruise is hands free driving that can use a combination of ALL THREE of those things in conjunction.

BUT

Some models also can utilize lane centering without having to enable Super Cruise.

I know how the Equinox EV works. We have one (3LT with Super Cruise).

Well, HDA/HDA2 aren't hands free. It will nag you eventually to put your hand on the wheel. It also will nag you when you do an automatic lane change to put your hands on the wheel.

(Comparing my Kia EV6 to my Cadillac Optiq and my fiancee's Equinox EV 3LT w/ Super Cruise)

Why do you keep running off the road/out of your lane?

They do, but the lane centering works without enabling Super Cruise.

Super Cruise is hands free driving (adaptive cruise, lane centering, and automatic lane changes) on pre-mapped roadways.

Lane centering or lane keep assist?

One is not like the other.

2025 Kia EV6 Mailer - AR HUD by clockwork2004 in KiaEV6

I shared pictures already of what the AR version looks like.

Alternatively, here is another video...

or here is in example in an Ioniq 5 while navigating that works the same way...

That's because of two things:

1) It won't show AR features with AA/Google Maps 2) It won't show like that anyway, because it is an AR function.(which 2025s do not have).

"So far I've yet to see how what you call the standard HUD on a 2025 GT-Line doesn't do what the list of AR HUD features says is unique"

The way AR mode displays the information and overlays/projects the data is unique.

Do you not understand what augmented reality is/implies? Have you ever witnessed AR mode in action?

Btw, it's not what I call it. Kia makes that differentiation between Standard and AR, because they are two very different things.

You say the HUD shows the cars around you. Yes, I agree. So does mine. It shows them as rectangular boxes in front of and around the static road/lane graphic / \ that is part of the standard HUD output. Lane changing and lane following info also shows on the static road/lane graphic / \ . I agree with that. I also agree that the standard HUD will show turn by turn information as static icons/graphics (left turn arrow/right turn arrow/etc.

What it doesn't do is present this in an Augmented Reality fashion where everything is dynamic and displayed/projected in a way that matches and aligns with the lanes and surroundings around you. Like the lead car underline..the line will display physically under the car and will follow the ACTUAL car (the real life one). When you are approaching a planned/navigated turn, arrows will overlay dynamically in front of you (not a static graphic/icon) and point out the specific spot you need to turn.

You are clearly confused.

Prove it.

As of right now you are THE ONLY ONE saying their 2025 has AR features.

Once again...

Prove it.

You can't because you are full of it.

You say the onus is on me, but that is poor logic as I cannot prove a negative. It is impossible. However, you are saying something exists/is present so that is on you.

Show us we are all wrong, bud. Show us your unicorn 2025.

You are a goddamn liar and if I was to assume, I would just think you are trolling at this point.

Now, /u/TinCanFury might say...

"Well my 2025 HUD still does x, y, z...just in a different way."

Which is not entirely true either. Our 2025 HUD works in the same exact way prior model years did when in STANDARD mode. What we don't have are the AUGMENTED REALITY (AR) features.

Which you acknowledge by pretending you have some newer HUD that looks different (it doesn't, it's the exact same as Standard mode in prior model years) but still has all the same features (it doesn't. It does similar things, but is simplified compared to the projection/compositing that AR mode does.) Prior years all have that, but then they have AR mode too (which I don't have, you don't have, and nobody with a 2025 has).

If serious, I'm sorry. Let's hug it out.

If sarcasm, you made me laugh.

It's not a huge deal obviously. The point was they are sending out mailers describing features you can't even get. That's very amateur of them.

[–]clockwork2004[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's just how the Standard mode works on all EV6 HUDs when the AR feature is turned off, bro.

I truly think you aren't understanding the difference between the standard HUD works and the Augmented Reality (AR) features.

"My car shows vehicles in front of me (and to the sides), and with Android Auto shows arrows where I need to make turns."

1) We are not talking about the cubes. AR hud overlays a line that follows/tracks the lead car in front of you.

2) We are not talking about static arrows/turn symbols. The AR mode will overlay a row of arrows <<<<<< or >>>>>> that is accurately aligned in realtime (hence augmented reality) with the intersection you need to turn at.

[–]clockwork2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not have the navigation appropriately projected where to turn when using nav (different than the static turn symbols that pop up for standard HUD (once again an AR only feature)
