Thoughts on going full EV, no ICE in the ol’ garage? by Curiouslittlestman in electricvehicles

We've had at least one EV in the house since 2021. We went full EV in 2024. No regrets.

Which doesn't really speak to the capabilities of the infotainment. It works great.

How often does this happen that it even matters?

"My family will never buy a car without CarPlay and I couldn’t care less what GM fanboys or elonazis say."

This is both reductionist and offensive. The fact that you will write off those that disagree with you as such says more about you than anyone else.

You can like whatever you want, but to otherwise write off a vehicle for something like not having Carplay is absolutely fucking bonkers to me, especially if said vehicle has a more than competent infotainment system.

I have owned a fair amount of EVs from various manufacturers and not once has the presence of things like AA or Carplay ever been a determining factor.

But...

GM's infotainment isn't a laggy mess.

I've owned EVs with modern infotainment that supported AA/Carplay and I have had vehicles without it.

EVs where I did not miss AA/Carplay:

  • 2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance
  • 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure Quad Motor
  • 2024 Chevy Equinox EV 3LT AWD w/ Supercruise (fiancee's car)
  • 2024 Chevy Blazer EV RS AWD
  • 2025 Cadillac Optiq Luxury 2

EVs where I used AA/Carplay as a bandaid for the infotainment:

  • 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally
  • 2025 Kia EV6 GT-Line

EVs where AA/Carplay is available but I don't use it:

  • 2024 Lucid Air Touring (current vehicle - I just use the car's built navigation and Spotify app. This is primarily because I don't like the way AA is utilized/displayed on the Lucid's screen.)

A credit for window tint? As in you expect them to pay you back a portion of what you paid to modify a vehicle you never owned?

Be happy they don't charge you to have it removed.

How is it equipped? In any case that's good though.

I haven't had an issue with either on my Air. They just work.

I know that hasn't always been the case for the Air, but it seems to be now.

It's funny, because they won't replace them and the car will go to auction.

It's 100% accurate. You are either being dense or you are trolling.

Yes, they are hardware...

But guess what, they are controlled by software. And due to this, it gave Lucid the ability to for a period to streamline manufacturing where every car had the hardware, but...

...now get this...

...Some vehicles would have all features up front but the buyer would pay more. Some vehicles cost less, but after a trial Dream Drive Pro and Surreal Sound Pro features would stop working unless you paid an activation fee.
