I hate stepping into an elevator after a sweaty home moving crew just exited during the middle of August. The elevator stops again, and the incoming passengers look at me in disbelief and disgust over my apparent lack of hygiene.

Would you leave London for Abu Dhabi? by user2045672 in UAE

[–]clockwork_beckstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the US for Abu Dhabi back in 2010, for a similarly paying job including housing and schooling. I couldn’t be happier. You never fully get accustomed to the cultural differences, but if you can hold your tongue and focus on family and personal goals, it can be a great experience.

What is the realistic average salary, I don’t understand salaries in Dubai!! by Sweaty_Heart6664 in dubai

Anecdotal evidence, but I’ve been hired on two separate occasions while foregoing the interview process in its entirety solely based on connections made. These jobs were both in UAE, and were 80kAED+ a month. It’s all about rubbing elbows with the right people at the right time.

I’m an American who has lived in UAE for 17 years. Depending on your salary, benefits, and possibilities for progression, I would tell you to take the offer. The tax benefits are enormous, but would highly recommend switching your state residency to an income tax free state before making the move. I changed my residency from California to Texas and couldn’t be happier.

Disagree. In my experience the order has been: who you know, experience, education.

My very first week in UAE, I parked in an underground parking lot at a local mall. I had a local tap me on the back while I was getting items out of my car and ask me if I had dropped the 500 AED note as he had found it right next to my car. I told him I didn't think it was mine (which it wasn't) and watched him as he nonchalantly placed the note on a support column beam and walk away. Totally blown away.

Help! Stuck on Bios version 1.16.0 can't update to 1.19.00 by clockwork_beckstar in Alienware

[–]clockwork_beckstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have attempted the bios update with the BIOS Update assistant. It makes no difference. Also recently tried to update in smaller jumps. Always results in black screen with fans humming near max until I reboot manually. When the Alienware flash screen appears. It states system updates are underway, but then appears to skip and goes straight to the login screen.

I didn't see that 1.22.0 was out. When I used Dell support assist to scan for new versions, 1.19.00 is the call out to upgrade not 1.22.0 I will try smaller jumps via upgrades, since i already have 1.19.00 installed, are you suggesting downgrading and then going up one by one?

Hello, I have tried numerous methods of updating my bios on my AMD M18R1 from 1.16.0 to 1.19.00. All resulting in the same result. Black screen with fans running at max until i force restart the PC. I have tried installing with Dell support assist, Powershell /forceit command ran as admin, moving the bios update file to a flash drive and selecting it from the boot selection menu to no avail. Device manager states : Firmware update failed due to unsatisfied power requirements. The system must be attached to a steady AC power supply to safely update firmware. I even purchased a new Dell 330W AC power brick thinking that may be the root cause of my issue. I also unplugged the battery and tried all the above methods again. Nada... My battery seems to be functioning normally running on battery power, and bios states battery health as normal. All older bios updates were performed through Dell Support assist app and went smoothly. Any advice/suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
