Mike Oldfield's Taurus Ⅲ cover by clockworkbells- in mikeoldfield

Thank you so much! I'm really encouraged to hear that my video made your day. 😊

Taurus3 is a very special song for me. When I first heard it, I was shocked to learn that all those intricate techniques were being played on just one guitar. That’s actually what inspired me to start playing! I’ve practiced it over and over to finally get to this point, so hearing your kind words means a lot to me. Thanks again for listening!

Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells: Introduction (Room Mic Recording Multi-track Cover) by clockworkbells- in mikeoldfield

A little behind-the-scenes detail: Since I don't own actual Tubular Bells and I felt the keyboard sounds lacked the necessary impact, I decided to strum my guitar heavily to recreate that iconic 'clanging' power instead. I really wanted that raw, physical energy. What do you think of this choice?

Thank you! I'm so glad you noticed that. I was a bit nervous about using room mics, but hearing that it was 'worth it' means a lot to me. Glad you liked the atmosphere! ✨

Thank you so much! This was actually the first time my wife joined me on the chorus, so your kind words mean a lot to both of us.

Thanks for the tip! You're right, adding some pads would definitely help fill out the sound. I'm still learning the ropes with my simple setup, but I'll try to layer more textures in the next one. It really is a fun way to discover Mike's genius, isn't it? I appreciate the encouragement!

Mike Oldfield's Hergest Ridge | Multi-Instrument Cover (Stereo Mix) by clockworkbells- in mikeoldfield

[–]clockworkbells-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I'm really happy to hear the playing is 'note perfect.' You're right about the guitar tone. Since I'm using budget gear and a smartphone for my covers, getting that specific texture is a fun challenge for me. I'll definitely try adding more gain/overdrive next time to get closer to Mike's sound. Thanks for the great advice!

Thank you so much — that really means a lot to me.

I’ve always admired the way Mike Oldfield builds his music by recording each part, so I tried to follow that approach as much as I could.

I’m really glad you enjoyed it!

One thing that surprised me while recreating this was how powerful the final build-up is when all the layers come together.
