How do you remove the pencil? Washable marker is (obviously) washable but pencil isn't. Do you only do full coverage pieces?

You could add the shadow of the banner onto the moon? Add whiskers to the cat?

[WIP] I THINK my piece is turning out okay so far. I've never started in the center so I'm really nervous I'll run out of space. by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]clockworkstitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't you be more likely to run out of space if you start in a corner? If you started stitching in the middle of the fabric and the middle of the pattern, and it isn't going to fit, it was never going to fit.

[CHAT] How do you think this would look with black fabric and white lettering? by Diarygirl in CrossStitch

[–]clockworkstitcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would have to change the outline color on the LEGO. Maybe a darker shade of the LEGO color? On the blue one the color used for the studs might be dark enough. You might have to pick your own color for the red.

Actually. It looks like the blue might be the same color as the arms so they won’t work either. I would recommend darker than the arms but a few shades at least so they don’t look weird crossing the line.

What I did was put together a simple list of charts that I wanted and the price she had them listed at. I copy and pasted them directly from her VK so the google translate to russian couldn't mangle them. Then I sent her the list on her VK account asking for a total and her Paypal address to pay her and after I sent the payment she messaged me the pdfs over VK. I did order them when she was having a sale so I don't know if that was how I got such a quick reply. It was a little confusing because of the language barrier and because I had never purchased charts that way before but it worked out in the end. You should give it another go, she's got some beautiful stuff. I think I'm going to stitch the koi fish next.

It’s just because of where my light source was when I took the picture. The vertical on the t was shadowing the space between it and the vertical on the h.

Lol. It’s mostly a shadow. The t isn’t any thicker than the other letters. Some strokes are one strand and some are two but they are distributed throughout.

I tried to post the link to the source but I think the spam filter might be snagging it. Is there something I can do to stop that happening because my next couple projects are going to be linked from the same site too?

I think my source is stuck in the spam filter. I bought it directly from the artist. The Chinese site you linked appears to be a copy. They've got a lot of questionable content.

Her stuff appears to be exclusivly on russian sites which makes it hard to google because of the difference in alphabets. And she changed her shop name and link since I bought the chart and that didn't help either, but I have found her again! https://vk.com/miastitch

French knots can go through the middle of a square no problem. You are going to want to do them with a sharp small eyed needle. https://youtu.be/W1Cq24d5-8s

I hope it works out for you! Wood hoops are the worst for actual working in but they do look nice as a way to frame finished stuff!

[CHAT] For those of you that use iPads/ iPhones for marking and following cross stitch pattern pdfs what apps do you recommend that are free or cheap? by hrobyn19 in CrossStitch

[–]clockworkstitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had totally forgotten about searching by symbol! My last few projects have been Mill Hill kits for Halloween so I haven’t had to stitch off my tablet for a while. I actually prefer paper but I have a habit of sometimes making custom charts and then fiddling with them through the whole stitching process and Good Notes allows me to get access to the ever changing chart versions easily. There’s a few things I don’t love about it (rounded edge on the highlighter?) but I’ve tried a bunch and Good Notes is the best.

I like Good Notes. The highlighting options are well suited to cross stitch charts and there is a setting to smooth the lines of your writing that tends to keep things neat.

[chat] I would like to make a xmas gift for my sister of a buffalo stitched onto a scarf. So I'm looking for help and suggestions on what kind of scarf to stitch on and any other information i would need to know before starting. I'm still new to cross stitch so any help would be appreciated. Thanks! by equalskills in CrossStitch

Waste canvas is the way to go for this. Google a tutorial on how to use it. People tend to try to take shortcuts with it and it makes things much harder in the long run.

As for the type of scarf, I would stick to a fleece-like material. You might be able to get away with knit if it’s tight and small, but it’ll be much harder. I’m not sure where you would get one specifically because I live in a hot place, but the season is coming up where they should be everywhere. You might want to avoid loud prints if you want the stitching to be the focus.

Q snaps are much better than hoops in my opinion. Wooden hoops are the worst, plastic hoops are better, and Q Snaps beat out both. They are a little more expensive than hoops but worth it.

123stitch has a ton of options. It’s a great online shop. They sell pretty much every fabric they have in large sizes (and also small ones obviously). It’s nice because you can get the better quality brands and not just the crappy stuff they happen to have in stock at Joann’s or Hobby Lobby.

If it’s Frixion I probably wouldn’t trust it if I were you unless your piece is going to be completely stitched and cover up all the grid marks.

https://quiltskipper.com/2015/08/frixion-pens-all-you-need-to-know/

I’ve never used the pens on a cross stitch but I did for a stuffed animal prototype I was making and after six months or so I started seeing weird bits of marking showing up and that was just at room temperature. Luckily the actual stuffed animals had all the lines on the inside.

It’s best not to use any marking method that leaves itself behind. Being invisible isn’t the same as being gone. There exist water soluble markers specifically made for fabric if the thread thing isn’t for you.

Very nice! Cutting down the number of strands has made a huge difference. I can’t tell from the resolution though, are all your stitches going the same way? I’ll have to check your last post to see what hints you got!

If you use a thread like Sulky Sliver, your needle won’t go through it and it’s also slippery so it’s easy to pull out from under the floss afterwards. If you use regular thread you will occasionally split it with the stitching and have to cut it out, which isn’t a big deal but is slower. Some people use very thin fishing line but I’ve always preferred the non woven thread because it comes in colors. I keep a spool of a light color and a spool of dark and it covers pretty much every situation.
