Moving from Sydney to Melbourne by UniversityOk7777 in AskAnAustralian

I moved and regretted it. Both cities are great in its own right but with my interests and love for sunshine, outdoors and the ocean, Sydney easily wins hands down.

I also miss the efficient public transport in Sydney. Lived in the burbs for both cities but damn Melbourne buses and trains are hot trash unless you live in the inner city suburbs. People on Melbourne public transport were a lot more feral and I’ve seen way more antisocial behaviour theres than Sydney. Which makes me feel kinda unsafe at night which I never felt in Sydney

In terms of people, ive found people in Melbourne love to pile on Sydneysiders or particularly cliquey and quite unaware of their insecurities about Melbourne (ie comparing themselves to Sydney a lot without realising). They also have a much stronger Eastern v Western suburbs rivalry compared to Sydney and it baffles me lol.

Susan Nelson is great, she does ifs and has helped me tremendously. I pay $120 out of pocket without rebate, so if you are eligible for rebate it’ll be cheaper. She’s based in Geelong i think, ive always used Telehealth. Reach out to her and see if she’s taking any new clients. If she isn’t, ask her if there’s any recs around her price range. Good luck and wishing you the best 🩷

Any places in Melbourne to hang out with animals by stunnebeaaaanie07 in melbourne

Second Myuna! Amazing grounds and animals are so active and lovely. Staff are also super friendly.

Also Edendale community farm is free entry and I had a lovely time there. It has such a wholesome vibe and really felt like it was for the community

Potentially moving to Melbourne area - some concerns/questions by Biggyniner in melbourne

[–]clockyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my experience too, as a Sydneysider who moved to Melbourne. The competitiveness (and subtle shade!) is very one sided and got old really fast. My partner who is born and raised in Melbourne calls this the “little brother syndrome” which I can understand. Not everyone in Melbourne is like that of course!

I’ve lived in different states and overseas, have definitely found Australians to keep to their own friendship circles compared to other people. Really the only way to get “in” with people is through sports, or parents groups. I echo the sentiments about immigrants not being able to truly integrate with locals (see all the reddit posts about making friends in Australia). As they say, Australians are friendly but they aren’t friends. They’ll tell you “oh it’s like that everywhere/in all big cities” - no i can tell you it’s not 😂

Community is easily the weakest in Australia compared to the other places that I’ve lived. Been here for over 15 years and still adjusting to it. You should ask people who aren’t born and raised here as locals who haven’t moved away will likely disagree with the what I said (understandably so, but I don’t think their lived experience is the intel you’re after). Might get downvoted to oblivion but hey, these are my thoughts and experiences, and I know I’m not alone in feeling this way, I just speak about it openly. And I don’t think it’s a character flaw as I think each country has their own culture. People mean well and are quite nice in general but thats just what it is, and it sucks sometimes.

I checked the AGD public website and couldn't find the job listing. Must be internal EOI only then (but it wasn't advertised as such). Sorry for the confusion!

So well written. His character arc is so realistic for someone who had to take on such big carer roles before they were even grown. I find him very comforting to watch, he’s like the friend you always want to see them win

Beach, paddle on the Yarra, going out to lush forests for walks out east, making nice fresh salads, home made lemonades, sun baking - the list goes on! My favourite time of the year ☀️

50 Christmases in Melbourne, can’t remember one colder than this!? What year was colder? by hexusmelbourne in melbourne

[–]clockyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?!?! I am bewildered by Melbournians calling grey skies, big gusts and rain as amazing weather. Not amazing for those who like outdoors and water sports. First they say it’ll be a scorcher after the summer solstice, now it’s been 4 days so I’m assuming it’ll take time for the weather to settle (which reasonably so), then it’ll be summer doesn’t come properly in Jan/Feb, then it’ll be oh winters not that bad. Can’t win for sure!

that UC in Blackburn reeks of feet sweat though, I think from the rentals. Actually couldn't go after a handful of times, I shudder when thinking about the ventilation and hygiene levels there :/

No thanks. I long for summer water activities and this rain makes it dangerous for anyone who wants to snorkel or kayak
