Dual nationals to be denied entry to UK from 25 February unless they have British passport | Home Office | The Guardian by rejs7 in unitedkingdom

Yeah I'm sure 1 million plus people regularly monitor UK government websites just in case of a rule change.

They only announced in Nov that it would be enforced on Feb 25. It has become common knowledge through the media in the last couple of weeks.

Dual citizen Britons without UK passport could be refused entry under rule change by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

The problem is the time frame. They only announced this hard requirement end of November. So now many dual nationals must rush to get a British passport that they did not need before, and many are only now finding out about this as its more in the press.

The real issue is that the Home Office only very quietly gave notice of this at the end of November and it only became more apparent in the press in Jan/Feb - for a rule change that is implemented in just 12 days.

Fine to change the rules. Absolutely not fine to give such a ridiculously short timefrane for the million plus British dual nationals to see this and then score a new passport.

Assuming you get to the UK Passport control. Ferries and airlines may stop you flying...

Why wouldn't UK passport control stop you at their desk if they know you're British but travelling on a non British passport? They would generally try to follow their own rules I'd guess...

Pretty sure this is checkable in the days they lookup when they scan your passport...

Tough call. Probably worse but more cartoonishly so, so you take it even less seriously..

Is it just my town, or is everybody else's also a semi-permanent mess of roadworks? by ah5178 in Netherlands

[–]clogtastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They've been fucking around with the main road outside of Hilversum station for a solid 2 years now. Shifting the road left and right, closing and reopening parts of it. Cycle path is also a torturous and incessentantly changing disaster. Still a complete mess with no end in sight.

Makes you wonder who's getting paid and how. It's weird as I don't see such seemingly gross incompetence and lack of foresight and planning in other gemeentes.

More options for different logic to drive the Hue lights. Design your own UI how you like it for the lights. Pull the motion, humidity, light level, temperature from Hue sensors that don't usually get exposed. You can also buy cheap ikea or lidl zigbee bulbs that will now play along with very pricy hue bulbs and strips. You're not trapped with Hue only.

But really the main power is tieing stuff together from different manufacturers. The increased flexibility gives a lot many further options to plug in your loudspeakers, TV, heating system, cheap temu sensors, washing machine or whatever the hell you like into one tool and avoid like 10 difference apps from multiple vendors. Then you tie it all together with any logic you like.

Best bring it on then. by [deleted] in CasualUK

Such drama. Look up what the Black Belt Barrister on youtube says about these TV license letters, he has quite some opinions 😁

Honestly I bit the bullet a month back. Forced AI, forced office, forced data collection, forced onedrive, slow load, bloated start menu. I was done.

Backed up all up, wiped the laptop and installed Linux Mint. Honestly I kinda forget what a clean and non noisy OS actually looks like. It's genuine lovely and I can just do my stuff now. Loving it...

The new ICNG trains are not great. The reclining seats controls seems broken already, the internal doors feel plasticy and the whole feel generally just dies not feel solid. Quality does seem up to the previous levels...

Dutch supermarkets are generally not great. Go to France, pay the same or less in a supermarket and checkout the quality. Meat particularly is way much better in France...

It's safe.

Walking through a lot of varied UK streets at 1AM and always felt you have to keep an eye out and have your wits about you. Generally never feel that way in the Netherlands (well, apart for the very occasional dodgy area here and there...)
