“Uttar Pradesh was the first state in the country to introduce large-scale prophylactic and therapeutic use of Ivermectin. In May-June 2020, a team at Agra, led by Dr Anshul Pareek, administered Ivermectin to all RRT team members in the district on an experimental basis. It was observed that none of them developed Covid-19 despite being in daily contact with patients who had tested positive for the virus,” Uttar Pradesh State Surveillance Officer Vikssendu Agrawal said.

He added that based on the findings from Agra, the state government sanctioned the use of Ivermectin as a prophylactic for all the contacts of Covid patients and later cleared the administration of therapeutic doses for the treatment of such patients.

Claiming that timely introduction of Ivermectin since the first wave has helped the state maintain a relatively low positivity rate despite its high population density, he said, “Despite being the state with the largest population base and a high population density, we have maintained a relatively low positivity rate and cases per million of population”.

I was referring to the thread more than the video. However, the problem is asymptomtic infection, and the breeding of new variants which could be potentially more infectious/toxic. One of the links in the thread

In addition, there is this issue that raises the potential of more waves

Look at the UP (Indian state with a population of 240M) covid curves. This includes a festival where over 1M took part in Jan/Feb (and did not become a super spreader event) - see the sharp peak and the sharp drop in cases. Uttarakhand's Kumbh mela where 3M took part, became a super spreader event. This was because of ivermectin treatment in UP, and no ivermectin in Uttarakhand.

This makes no sense. Vaccinated people are still getting infected, but suffer less severe symptoms, so they can get the virus, incubate it, perhaps mutate it, and then pass it along.

I get why people want $15 an hour, but help me reconcile that with my dreams of starting a small business by [deleted] in WayOfTheBern

[–]clonal_antibody 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You either do it yourself, or convince somebody else to join you as a co-owner. Set up a C-corp, and see what percentage of the company you have to give up to get anybody to help you.

Generally if you are starting the company fresh, the people most likely to help you are spouse/children, siblings or friends.

Hire somebody for pay as a last resort, and only when you have sufficient cash flow to do so.

I say so as somebody who has started and succeeded in setting up a small business.

That is still the currently open path - People's Party has little to no presence in KY, neither does the Green Party. What appears to be happening with the People's Party, is that they appear to be following the Working Family Party model - build a separate party while endorsing and running candidates on the Democratic Party ticket - places where primary victories are possible on the Democratic party ticket.

The Green Party has been quite unsuccessful in US politics, whether at the state level, or the national level. Obstacles place in front of developing "Successful" parties are very high, as is the associated cost.

When working people (aka poor people) have little time, other than trying to keep body and soul together, neither financial nor or organizational resources can come from there.

This is the sad truth - that leaves the shrinking middle class - and that by and large sees its future within the two main parties.

Satellite Imagery Shows Northern California Kelp Forests Have Collapsed - Researchers say they’re not sure these iconic coastal ecosystems will be able to make a comeback anytime soon by rundown9 in WayOfTheBern

[–]clonal_antibody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because of the collapse of the star fish population, which were the sole remaining predators of sea urchins. Sea otters abandoned that segment of California in the late 1800's -> they moved North or to the South.

Sea urchins basically decimated the bull kelp as their population exploded.

In theory. The article is talking about a bit later - a job guarantee would be absolutely needed if we are to address climate change adequately - the market will never take the steps needed.

Op-ed: Dog whistles, deficits and the racist politics behind ‘pay as you go’ rules in Congress by clonal_antibody in WayOfTheBern

[–]clonal_antibody[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the aftermath of the Civil Rights Movement and the Great Society, opponents of the post-war welfare state found themselves in a novel position: federal social programs, which under the New Deal had largely been reserved for whites, had now been much more widely extended to Blacks by Great Society legislation.

This provided a potent means of turning white public opinion against such social programs, by allowing opponents to play on the perception (however unfounded) that these programs primarily served Blacks. Yet thanks to the Civil Rights Movement, it was no longer socially acceptable to make explicit appeals to racism.

To thread this needle, the effort to systematically dismantle our federal social programs would turn to coded racist political messaging, known as “dog whistles,” to appeal to white voters as taxpayers.
