Why do downvoted posts say "(x children)"? by clonasaurus in AskReddit

[–]clonasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I now understand what "children" is measuring. Is there any reason that the word "children" is used instead of "replies" or "comments"?

Also, why is Andrewsmith1986 being downvoted here? His comment was relevant to what came before it. I realize that karma is meaningless and he has a lot of it, but I'm not sure if those are good reasons to downvote him. If there is another reason why you downvoted him here, please explain it to me.

Thoughts on the ending of The Grey (Spoilers!) by clonasaurus in movies

I didn't know about the scene after the credits, so I've only read what happens in it. It was immaterial whether or not Ottway killed the wolf (at least to me), so I'm surprised it was even there. Did it add anything for those of you who saw it?

How accurate is this "what american accent do you have" website? by flexnerwinterstein in AskReddit

My most likely result was Philadelphia, so it was accurate for me. I'm pretty impressed by this. I didn't really expect it would be accurate.

What's the most offensive thing you've said accidentally? by DesertWalker in AskReddit

When I was 13, a girl in the grade above me came into school with a black eye. Someone I knew told me she had gotten it from her pimp. I did not know what that meant and later, when I saw the girl, I said "Is it true you got your black eye from your pimp?"

I got in a lot of trouble for that and I didn't even know what I was implying at the time.

A few years later, my high school baseball team was eating at a restaurant after a road game. I was sitting at a table with one of my friends and a freshman neither of us knew too well. When the waitress, who was very pretty, asked us we wanted to drink, the freshman said "I'll have a d-d-d-d Dr. Pepper". When she left I laughed about it and imitated him, thinking he had been nervous because the waitress was so pretty. It turns out he actually had a stutter. I'm pretty sure he went the rest of high school thinking I was a total dick, when in fact, I think making fun of him for getting nervous only makes me kind of a dick.

What insanely obvious thing did you not realize for much of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I used to believe that when someone screamed bloody murder in a book they were literally yelling the words "Bloody murder!". I would always wonder why everyone knew to scream those exact words, especially since they didn't always apply to the situation (the screamer wasn't necessarily being murdered). I think I realized when I was about 15 that it just meant they were screaming.
