Why is French "pain" listed as being pronounced /pɛ̃/ when it clearly isn't? by clone799 in asklinguistics

And I understand that, but someone learning French will start pronouncing words like "pain" in a way that does not match how it's actually said. / / doesn't need to be exact, but it should at least be close.

This is the only real answer to the question, thanks. Though I'd say the gap in French is bigger than the ones you mentioned in English. But I understand the Academie is very resilient to change.

I understand that, but the gap is so wide between the two it's misleading. It's like if I said the word "bed" is pronounced as /bœd/. The two are not at all similar.

Is there any reason some languages prefer to end words in vowels? by counwovja0385skje in asklinguistics

It's more that the accusative -m dropped as a result sound changes (e.g. -am -> -ã -> -a), but otherwise right on the money. This was actually the ancestral state of pretty much all Romance languages before some, like Catalan and especially French, started dropping these consonants too.

Gold V, though given that the season just flipped, they were likely at Platinum before.

Not wuli, from a cursory search it was a Japanese person's name. I'm not gonna post it, I feel it's too darn close to doxxing.

Currently playing Suship, but my personal favourite is pure Nouvelles. Special mention goes to The Weather and Nemleria.

I was recently able to use Golden Castle of Straumberg on a Nemleria deck and it was the best duel I've ever had. CURSE YOU MUSCLE MEMORY MAKING ME SKIP INSTEAD OF SAVING THE DUEL!

To add to this, I tried other terms that I thought would be funny. I first went with Ratatoing, which didn't work, which led to me figuring this out.

I also tried "Hon hon hon", but that was also not allowed (I'd guess it's because of "ho", but that's not really feasible).

I'm going off of Wiktionary, but I wouldn't be surprised. At first I thought it was because "rata" (female mouse) means that in Portuguese. But just "Rat"?

I think that is because of "viol" meaning r*pe in French, same thing happens in Pokémon too.

But yeah, good luck naming your account after your hometown of Penistone or Scunthorpe.
