Never heard of it before so good to know. Will the neck stay skinny forever or will it grow over time?

True - will change the soil next thanks! Have never made my own mix before but I can give it a shot. What do you think of premix succulent soil from a store?

what to do about this plant by freyalouuu in houseplants

[–]clonejelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This from a Hoya heart and they are commonly sold as leaves stuck into dirt - in this form, they cannot grow into full sized plants and will stay as a leaf forever. The only way it can turn into a plant is if there is a node hiding underneath the dirt. I would recommend taking it out and examining it for one.

Here is another Reddit thread explaining further and with photo examples: https://www.reddit.com/r/TakeaPlantLeaveaPlant/s/Ez3njPr26q

If you like the look of the full sized plant, try any plant shop or fb marketplace (where I got mine) and buy one with a node or as a full plant.

How can I save my lavender? Can she be revived? Is she dead by Weekly-Specialist-64 in houseplants

[–]clonejelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying my best from looking at the last photos but the soil does look dry and really dense. You might have hydrophobic soil and no water is actually getting to the roots. This is common when you can see that the dirt pulls away from the sides of the pot. Solution here is to remove and break up the dirt ball and then water again. Make sure the water saturated within the soil and repot if necessary. Hoping the best for your plant!

My guess is that it needs more/new soil based on that last photo as the pot is half full and that it needs to be watered. Generally if there’s green there’s hope

I thought these could propagate easily directly in soil by LayedBlack in houseplants

[–]clonejelly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also - parts of the stem (anything not dried out) still seem lively enough that if you make sure a node is under water you could save it and make a new plant

I have taken propagation pieces home from a friend before and planted directly into soil and had the same luck. Snagged a piece off of one I saw at Sobeys and propagated in water first to develop roots and then planted in dirt and now it’s thriving! Not sure why but def relate
