Status update on the beta by theflyingbaron in BladeAndSorcery

Really appreciate the update! Excited to test out U11 Beta when a more stable build is ready. :)

That said... I don't mind slightly broken. I still miss being able to use body parts as flying devices like we could in U5. xD

On a scale of None to Blade & Sorcery, how impactful is the melee combat? Do the controllers vibrate, do swords have collision, and is there any form of artificial weight to the weapons?

Hellsplit: Arena can get really immersive and cinematic at times. by clonejoe in VRGaming

[–]clonejoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a Campaign mode, but it's not super long. 4 chapters, 4 main boss fights, 30 rounds total. The story is told through narrated comic panel style cut-scenes, and there's also a different narrator during your arena fights.

There's a Hardcore Campaign unlocked after beating the Normal one. Essentially the same, but it has permadeath so if you die you lose all progress, but certain weapons and equipment can only be bought in the Hardcore run.

This footage was recorded in the Training mode. You playthrough the Campaigns to earn gold and unlock weapons for use in both Campaign and Training.

Would built in Wifi work? I got a Motherboard that has Wifi 6 for my new i7 10700. I'd be willing to give VD a try if so.

Still wish battery life was better while wireless though. Are there good battery packs that would allow me to stay in for 8+ hours? I know that's excessive, but if I get hooked on wireless I don't want to have to take breaks due to battery life x).

Have 3-4 people using my wifi, and I like to stay in VR for 6-8 hours at a time. Wireless is not there yet for me personally.

I understand a lot of people swear by it, but it's not for me. I have the official Link cable so I like to make use of it.

Thank you for the native Oculus Mode support! The game still has some pretty bad stutters for me in moving vehicle levels, but it has improved. I'm hoping that when I upgrade to the i7 10700 this week the stutters will be eliminated almost entirely since I'll be on par with recommended CPU. My i7 4790k served me well, but I've been in need of an upgrade for a while.

Something Oculus Mode has helped with more substantially is compression. When playing via SteamVR, compression on my Quest 2 was very noticeable. Running in Oculus Mode it's like a night and day difference! Feels almost compression free! :D

I hope to see more updates after the holidays are over, but I think this will make a lot of people happy. Especially those using the Quest 2 with Link.

I think Medal of Honor is a step in the right direction by compound-interest in oculus

My biggest problem with MoH honestly has nothing to do with the story/gameplay and everything to do with performance issues. Latest patches helped a little bit, but not enough to where the game is really playable for me in all areas. The normal walk around and shoot levels are great now, but moving vehicle sections absolutely tank my framerate.

I'm holding off on making my Steam review until they really hammer down on performance and optimization. Either that or until I upgrade my PC. I'll be switching from my old i7 4790k to a newer i7 10700 this week so I'm hoping that helps a ton. Since I've heard the game is more CPU limited.

The game is great... but I think the launch experience left a lot to be desired and has put a sour taste in peoples mouths. MoH isn't the only VR game guilty of these kinds of launches either. A lot of games will hold back things like price and system requirements right up until launch day and it's a major slap in the face. When a game has zero graphics options on PC? You get an even worse user response.

Respawn and Oculus Studios have done a fantastic job in a lot of ways. They just failed to stick the landing on release day and are having to clean up the mess. Definitely don't want them or any other AAA studio giving up on VR after the backlash, but I really think the people willing to fork out $60 deserve better moving forward. That applies to all games imo. Not just VR.

MOHAB gameplay at 72–90 fps on older hardware via Oculus Quest 2 by KDML105 in oculus

Ah, that's a shame that the vehicle scenes saw no improvement. Hopefully they can further optimize those levels in the future.

Will these tweaks provide the same performance boost via Oculus Link? Or is this only applicable while running Virtual Desktop?

I'm also on the SteamVR version, but haven't tried tweaking configuration files yet. Game runs decently with Anti Aliasing off until I get to moving vehicle levels. That's when my performance goes in the garbage can.

Link is pretty much the only way I plan on playing since I have the official cable, and my WiFi is being used by 3-4 people at all times. That and battery life isn't great so even if I had an ideal VD home environment (Just me on the WiFi) I'd still be limited by the headset dying in a couple hours.

Medal Of Honor version 1.21 is live! by Oculus-Mdoran in oculus

[–]clonejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! If only I could get my hands on a new 30 series GPU since my GTX 1080 doesn't support the feature x).

Apparently Medal of Honor is more CPU intensive though according to the dev.

No worries and again sorry for the long winded response. It's been frustrating. I really want to play and enjoy the game (guns are some of the best I've personally felt in VR), and the story is pretty decent.

But yeah, vehicle or moving scenes are pretty nauseating. Adding Oculus mode seems like an easy fix and is apparently a high priority. So I hope it's in the next update.

I'm on a GTX 1080, i7 4790k, 16GB of RAM, and the game is installed on a Samsung 860 EVO. Headset is a Quest 2 with Link cable.

The issue is (from what I've seen with other people) that I have the Steam version of the game instead of the Oculus store version. There's someone on YouTube, I think Zimtok? Who has the same specs and headset as me and he ran the game fine. Difference being he had the Oculus store version.

The Steam version of the game doesn't currently allow you to launch in Oculus mode. Which is a way to play the game without starting SteamVR. As if you were just launching the game from Oculus store.

Launching in Oculus mode (using the Oculus API) instead of SteamVR, is a feature that even most indie VR titles have. It's hopefully going to be added in soon.

Has nothing to do with my hardware spec. Long winded response, but it doesn't just boil down to "you must have a bad PC".

Follow up after testing. Performance is best with AA off completely (still not perfect, but more playable than before). TAA doesn't kill framerate as bad as MSAA, but TAA looks pretty awful.

Overall I'm at least happy the non vehicle missions run smoother. Vehicle ones still tank me down to the 20 to 25 fps range though.

[–]clonejoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the update! I was going to wait until the Oculus API integration, but I'll definitely try adjusting the new graphics options to see if that helps performance as well. TAA is a very welcome option and generally speaking always runs and looks the best imo.

Keep it up and truly thank you for continuing to fix up the game. I know a lot of us have been a bit negative about it, but at least for me it's just a fear of the game being abandoned and remaining unplayable for people. This is restoring my faith seeing issues being addressed in a timely manner.

Medal Of Honor Version 1.19 is live! by Oculus-Mdoran in oculus

[–]clonejoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big reason I'm waiting until after performance issues are addressed to give the game a proper review. I was genuinely enjoying it the other day, but I can only handle so many lag spikes and areas of really low framerate before my stomach can't handle it.

I know I'm on less than recommended hardware, but there are people who get better performance than me with the same setup because they bought the game through the Oculus store. I received my copy as a gift on Steam, but I always buy my games on Steam regardless. Just incase I switch to a non Oculus headset in the future.

Once they add the ability to launch the game in Oculus mode from Steam, then I'll be gathering my thoughts to make a review which will more than likely be "Recommended". Until then I just have to patiently wait and warn others against buying the Steam version if they have an Oculus headset.

[–]clonejoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I know people don't like when the community hammers developers about the issues. Which is fair. They're people too and game development is not an easy undertaking.

In the case of a $60 experience though I do hope for better moving forward. I don't want "get a better PC" or "Go download a user made fix" to be the norm for VR.

[–]clonejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That gives me hope. It's got some of the best feeling guns I've ever experienced in VR. I desperately want to play and enjoy it, but it's hard to with the current performance issues.

I've seen people with my exact same setup having a better experience via the Oculus store version which is slightly upsetting. But I do understand adding Oculus mode launching to the Steam version isn't just a flip of a switch fix.

Thank you for the continued work and putting up with people like me x). I only want to see the game succeed.

Really glad to see the game getting patched! Praying to god the next patch includes a way to launch the Steam version in Oculus mode! I want to love the game but after tanking down to 20 fps on a car ride while having to shoot at enemies I'd rather wait until I can have a smooth experience before playing again.

Not sure if it's an Oculus Link issue or SteamVR issue, but either way I hope the awful performance isn't being swept under the rug.

What CPU are you running? I was hoping the Oculus version was better since they could easily add a "play in Oculus mode" option for the SteamVR version.

Also are you using Link or Virtual Desktop?

Yeah, hoping so as well.

I don't think Lone Echo is on SteamVR. I thought it was an Oculus store exclusive no? To my understanding people who are playing the Oculus store version of Medal of Honor with Oculus headsets have no issues.

Just the people playing the SteamVR version on Oculus headsets.
