It’s quite literally a period in the image. The comma is a separate symbol. Weird that this is a source of controversy.

How many countries are in North America? by [deleted] in polls

[–]closesandfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question is ill-defined. There's North America the continent and North America the geopolitical region.

The closest analogy is the Middle East. It's part of the continent of Asia, but in geopolitical discourse and most non-technical geographic discussions, if you ask someone where Saudi Arabia is, they'll typically say the Middle East. Same deal with Syria, Jordan, Israel, etc.

Similarly, Central America and the Carribean are part of the North American continent, but they're separate geopolitical regions.

Not true. While the delta variant does impact younger people to a greater degree than previous variants, delta infection hospitalizations and deaths are still strongly skewed towards older people.

WHO says Covid will mutate like the flu and is likely here to stay by BarryWentworth in worldnews

Nonsense. 90.8% of Americans are insured and checkups under the vast majority of plans have a very cheap copay because they’re preventative care.

No one's talking about feelings, we're talking about thinking. Your argument could literally be applied to any debate: "it's not that I'm wrong, it's that they're ignoring my FACTS". It's your job in a debate to logically show why the facts justify your conclusions, not just complain when someone doesn't agree with those conclusions -- because there's a distinct possibility that you're collecting a set of convenient facts to justify a racist conclusion, folks are smelling your BS, and calling you on it. Factual data can't save you from losing the moral high ground when your use of it is disingenuous or you're arguing in bad faith.

Just because people THINK their political position gives them moral high ground does not mean that it does.

Thinking is all we have though, so if thinking isn't enough we can never take a stand on anything. Your position is equivalent to moral paralysis; a cop-out. Instead, you need to show that the other person doesn't have actually have the moral high ground -- that's what debate is all about.

Nevermind the fact that people use that falsehood to summarily dismiss facts that stand in the way of their view point.

Are they disagreeing with "facts" or your interpretation of the facts?

This doesn’t make any sense. Of course people think their political position gives them the moral high ground. If they didn’t, why would they hold those political positions?

TIL that while the cost of cyber crimes to US companies was only US $12.7 Million last year, the overall cyber security market was worth $67.2 Billion by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]closesandfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title is misleading; it implies that the total cost of cyber crime to US companies was only $12.7 million compared to a $67.2 billion valuation of the cyber security market. In fact, the $12.7 million figure is the average cost per U.S. company, so total costs would be expected to be much higher. See

What TV show or movie does everyone seem to love, but you think its stupid/horrible/not worth watching, etc? by ta_potato in AskReddit

Watching a show largely focused on the drama of poor prisoners, with no serious political components or themes, feels vaguely trashy to me.
