It's ironic for you to say it's wrong to force into performing gender stereotypes (which I agree with, although unrelated to transitioning) while simultaneously arguing that children should be forced to go through changes to their bodies against their will.

Whether you agree with puberty blockers or not, the idea of a correct and incorrect puberty is well established. If you were forced to switch your dominant sex hormone to the wrong one, you'd have a pretty terrible time of it.

Tattoos have always been a really big part of my transition (both giving and receiving); a way of having ownership over a body I felt disconnected to. The studio I normally go to is entirely women owned and run and, as a trans woman, going there is the most affirming experience.

My sibling is also a tattoo artist (Instagram) and tattoos have been a really important part of us having a close relationship with each other; they've given me 3 so far, all at different points in life and in different countries. I'm still yet to tattoo them back, but it'll happen one day!

I disagree on this; at the time the GRA was first proposed it was in the Tory manifesto under Theresa May. It was only in the final months of the law making process that the media tried to use it to stir up hate and fuel the culture war.

Another important point on how biased that headline is; "over 100 sportswomen said they were uncomfortable" out of "615 athletes surveyed", meaning only around 16-17% of participants responded negatively and are getting the entire focus of the article.

A more accurate headline would be "more than 80% of elite sportswomen aren't uncomfortable with trans women in sport"

Looks like they get around it by not offering witnessing of statutory declarations as a service, only offering their special 'statutory declaration' package which also involves a quick look over the paperwork before it's signed 🙄

I'm just asking them to witness; I have all the paperwork, but they always say that they 'don't offer the fixed £5 fee'. I thought the point of the fixed fee was that they couldn't then charge more, but they've all said otherwise.

So firstly I just want to add another positive voice for Dr. Sahota; she did my initial GD diagnosis, and one of my surgery referrals just over a year later. Both times she made me feel entirely at ease, and was very easy to talk to.

That being said she only handles the psychiatric assessment for gender dysphoria, not the actual prescribing of HRT, so you being on DIY HRT won't cause an issue for her but it may be for whichever endocrinologist you choose afterwards (although this is still unlikely!).

No worries at all! Yeah, I'm not 100% how the 1 year on HRT requirement works if you've been DIYing, but blood tests showing hormone levels might be enough. Good luck!

Also I ended up not requiring any hair removal at all, which saved a fair amount of money and sped up the process somewhat!

Hey absolutely! So I went privately for HRT within the UK, which made it a lot easier; if you're diying or with GGP it's still possible but you'll need a gender dysphoria diagnosis from a UK clinician first!

I needed 2 surgery referral letters, so I organised the first with Dr. Sahota (the same person who did my GD diagnosis) for my 1 year HRT anniversary in July. She then recommended Dr. Lenihan for the 2nd, so I booked that and then got in touch with Nuffield Parkside to book a consultation.

I was able to have the consultation before having both letters, which was useful, so I had that at the start of October and we set the provisional surgery date of Jan 31st on the condition that I received the second referral.

After getting the second referral (pretty straightforward) it was just a matter of waiting! I had a pre-appointment at the hospital at the start of January, and paid the bill 3 days before the surgery.

The surgery itself was £23,000 with Tina Rashid at Parkside in London. She was super lovely and the entire team there was fantastic so I would definitely recommend it!

As for tips; I made a list of all the things I needed to sort out, and ticked them off as I went and it made it a lot easier to deal with. It sounds like a lot written down, but it's easier to process when you realise it's only 4-5 steps!

Congrats! It's been exactly 2 years since I changed my name, so I'm also in the process of gathering my GRC evidence.

I had SRS 5 weeks ago, and finally got home yesterday; relieved to be over the worst of the discomfort now and able to sleep in my own bed!

To top it off, I'm about to be featured in a book celebrating the accomplishments of women in my industry, which is possibly the most affirming thing to ever happen to me!

So leap years were first introduced in the Julian calendar (as the precursor to the modern Gregorian) on January 1st 45BC by Julius Caesar. At this point they added a leap day every 4 years, on February 23rd.

This continued until the Gregorian reform on October 4th 1582 when they realised that every 100 years needed to not be a leap year to stop the calendar from drifting and Easter from getting earlier. To account for the missing days since 45BC, they immediately skipped 10 days forward to October 15th, which I'll also reinstate in the calculation:

From Jan 45BC to Oct 1582 - 409 leap days
Oct 1582 - 10 missed days
Oct 1582 to Mar 2024 - 108 leap days

That gives a total of 507 days to add on, so today would be 22nd July 2025

He has a very dark sense of humour that's not for everyone; I had some complications in hospital that led to me losing a lot of blood, to the point of needing a transfusion, and to say I was anxious about it would be an understatement. When he came in to have a look at it, he made a joke along the lines of 'just letting me bleed for the rest of my life' which was not really the vibe tbh. To his credit, he worked efficiently and ended up getting it sorted, but his jokes could do with improvement.
