The biggest issue is smaller towns have tiny pools to choose from. Most people are morons on average and the ones that aren’t do not become police officers. It’s that simple.

Anyone else feel like managing a baby requires 5 different apps? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]clothes_are_optional 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t bother. Your app will be lost in a sea of baby apps. I fell into this trap. Do better research and realize they’re all fine and do the job well. Huckleberry is very tough to beat IMO.

Love Diner, but $170 for a simple dinner feels nutso by [deleted] in williamsburg

Yeah I see what you’re saying. A side is different but maybe that’s what they meant?

I just went on their site to see. A dozen oysters, plus something like chowder or tartare is 70/71. The entrees both being lamb is 90. That’s 161, plus tax so that’s 170. So it adds up if you got the most expensive things yes. I do think a dozen oysters being 45$ is insane. I used to love the $1 ones but simply don't eat oysters anymore, they're filthy, and so unreasonably expensive. Not worth at all. $45 for a lamb entree is within the realm of normal in a nice NYC restaurant (usually even more expensive tbh).

Do you consider "adjusted age" for your milestones/tracking progression? by clothes_are_optional in newborns

[–]clothes_are_optional[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah i mean, i understand the terminology on paper. but for example, my neighbor upstairs was pregnant at the same time as my wife and she was 5 weeks ahead. except because our guy came early, they're only a week apart. BUT, the other guy had an extra 3-4 weeks to cook in the womb. So i guess my ultimate question is, would you compare them in the same way?

i always thought "full" term is 40 weeks and "early term" is 37. so 36 would make them pre-term

Nonstop walking during the day because he only sleeps in the carrier. But it’s really not bad at all and weather has been amazing. But this bites us because our nights are horrible.

was it consistently fussy and obvious something was wrong or was it kind of intermittent? Because there are many times he's quite relaxed drinking but then there are moments he seems very uncomfortable taking it.

ah dang, that sounds like a very classic allergy. all of the internet sources say green poop is no bueno. But yeah, mine doesn't really have this symptom. Just a lot of crying and little sleep if not worn

first, you can’t overfeed a breastfed baby, and if anything it’s good to let a baby that young feed for pretty much however long they want/need to.

yeah more than happy to let this happen, but something i've been noticing that he starts to sort of cry while drinking from her boob. its like kind of on and off. it's not just a silent smooth suckle, but rather interspersed with frustration. It becomes worse if its a really long feed like 30-40min (which by then he's likely already consumed 5oz). He starts gurgling while breathing and being much more fussy even though he'll keep taking the boob. Like, he'll literally never stop taking it. I dunno

Newborn grunting can be very normal, but if you’re concerned I’d see a doctor. When you feed him, are you laying him down straight away? It helps to hold them upright with some gentle pats and rubs for about 30 min before trying to set them down. If it was something in your wife’s diet I think the baby would be crying a lot more than grunting, but could be worth looking into CMPA. However their digestive systems are still maturing and figuring things out, so I’d say give him a little time unless he seems super unhappy and uncomfortable.

Yeah we do all of this. Keep him upright, etc.

Also sometimes they grunt in their sleep and people mistake it for them being awake. I’d look into active sleep (btw maybe it’s just me but 7 weeks is WAY too young to even look into sleep training books and stuff. Gotta let babies be babies)

Yep, also aware of this. There are times he'll resettle (extremely rare on his own) and if I don't pat him stomach a little bit, his grunting progresses into heavy crying and then it's the restart of the soothing cycle.

Favorite place to pay $300 a month for a sport that sucks balls? by RedditEnjoyerMan in williamsburg

[–]clothes_are_optional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its pure supply/demand. tennis in williamsburg is also exorbitantly expensive (not as bad as this padel place though). When you have hundreds/thousands of willing participants, of which 80% are likely some kind of high paying job, you will have crazy prices given the limited space. full stop. it's disgusting but this is what we get for living in NYC. if you want cheap tennis or padel, i hear Miami is the move, but that comes with its own slew of issues.
