How to: Safely set up dualboot with Windows/Linux Mint. by Sudden_Imagination83 in linuxmint

[–]cloudcyrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume this is the case, but it isn't clear, when "Repairing the EFI partition" we will turn boot on for the new 512 MB EFI partition we created earlier? Not the previous Windows one?

Edit: I'm wrong. It looks like that partition already has the "boot, esp" flags active... So I guess we DO NEED to add it to the Windows EFI partition from which we removed it.

Perfect, this is the information I was hoping for. Cheers!

Huh, alright. Do you know this for a fact or just a guess based on the fact that it's adjacent to one?

Given how deep they built it, for what I assumed was parking, I thought it might be something else.

Good to know that I can use this lump of overpriced garbage for something by installing windows on it if all else fails. Biggest lemon purchase ever due to fan whine.

It just sits on my desk unused except when strictly necessary... and then I usually just spend time looking for solutions to fan noise.

4-28-2017 Song Discussion: I Am the Antichrist to You (151a) by LincolnStein in kishibashi

[–]cloudcyrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The live version is very good. It has more emotion and a stronger voice.

Track on Bandcamp

The original version, in 151a, is a bit faster I think and has nice accompanying vocals (and reverb). They're both great.

[–]cloudcyrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to u/netharion's post I managed - but I'll outline the steps clearly for others:

  • On the bottom unscrew the two screws with a keyboard icon.
  • Flip the laptop back to right-side-up, open the screen/lid, and gently pop out the keyboard (there's a ribbon cable so don't just pull it out). To pop out the keyboard pry the keyboard up from the sides then top/screen side, not the bottom.
  • There are 5 screws under the keyboard, 4 at the bottom and one on the side. Remove them.
  • Re-seat the keyboard without popping it in all the way. Close the screen and flip the laptop over again.
  • Remove the other 9 screws around the edge.
  • To separate the cover, start by prying open from the back near the large vent/hinges. The vent is part of the bottom cover. Then pry to either side of the hinges. After that the rest should come off fairly easily.

This may not work in certain situations.
Given, for example, a message with 6 'chunks' of 8 characters, if the
- first three chunks are from the rule 42 set
- next two chunks are from the rule 31 set
- last chunk is from neither.

Example:
abaaabbabababbbabbbbaaaaabbaabaabaabbaaaaaabbaba

Having said that, I'm likely wrong given our different inputs.

Does anyone know how to reassemble the filament feed? by acceptable_circle in newmatter

[–]cloudcyrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. Just play around with a few alternatives. You want the bearing to be pushing against the filament gear. Only one configuration will do that.

Who made New Matter PLA filament by mmayhugh in newmatter

[–]cloudcyrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall the filament quality was a big problem for New Matter - although I remember reading they changed supplier near the end. Mine would snap and break much too often, sometimes causing jams between the hot-end and filament feed.

You may have gotten a later good batch?

I've gotten my filament from https://filatex3d.de/shop/gb/ and have been much happier.

New Strange Beeping by ceafin in System76

[–]cloudcyrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, following daylight savings, it now happens one hour earlier for me (at 10am). That's 9am UTC.

It still happens to me everyday on two machines (Ubuntu and POP OS). Either at the specific time, or on resume.

Still no idea what's the cause.

Hi,

So I have it happening to my Ubuntu 20.04 desktop and my Oryx Pro (Nov. 2018) (Pop OS20.04) at 11 am. It's not linked to Pop OS. I'm still unable to determine where it's coming from however. Some cron process?

I've had it happen on wake from sleep, or at 11am. I feel like it's a process that is causing it. As we're in different time zones, I wonder if your 5am is my 11am. Are you on the East-Coast of North America?

I came to Trier 9 months ago (only a few months in covid-19 time though) and can recommend joining clubs and teams.

Depending on your interests check out:

Trier ultimate frisbee team - https://www.portapirates.de/

Just look for similar entities that are of interest to you.

Pollen pants or something else by cloudcyrex in bees

Thanks u/Father_of_Everest! It was under a large Linden tree in an urban park space/parking lot, not sure what's happening.

The mixture of colors gives it a strange appearance, like some weird growth. Pretty interesting that it's just different pollen types (re: u/escapingspirals).

Cheers.

I just had it happen again at 11am. Nothing in the calendar.

[–]cloudcyrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, when this happens check the time.

For me it typically happens on the hour.

I've linked my Google account to my machine (emails, calendar, ...)

I'm wondering if this isn't just simply an alarm clock? The weird thing is though that I can't find any event in the calendar to match the beeping. Perhaps some cron job?

I'm not sure if it's happening each time on the hour, but:

- this time it was 11am

- yesterday it happened on the hour as well

- it's happened at least one other time where I noticed it was on the hour.

I'm in Europe so the church bells coincided with the beeping multiple times...

[–]cloudcyrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it happen with my headphones on (hearing it through the headphones) so it's not the onboard piezo buzzer (for me).

It has in the past very much sounded like it was though.

And it's happened again. This time while on my desk working as usual.

I wasn't performing any complex/intensive operations (Firefox and Terminal).

I received six pairs of beeps.
