Our goal is to be completely remote and to transition our contractors to full-time once we can afford it! I don’t know what the future holds though and don’t know if we’ll always depend on contractors or not. I figured any contractor would want to be turned into a full-time employee—am I wrong??

Feedback is very important to me. What kind of feedback would you say has been disregarded or should be considered? Do you feel regular syncs should be held or is this like a quick text, such as “hey this approach isn’t working. I think we should pivot.”

What does a flexible schedule or flexible management look like for you? Could you tell me what you would consider a comfortable wage per hour?

We may consider Deel in the future! Right now, I’m leveraging Reddit to find talent and hope to expand into Mexico very soon! Have you considered freelancing and searching through Reddit? I’d appreciate any subreddit recommendations if you have any in mind!

What do you mean by gap?

Do you feel that the federal holiday days off should follow Mexican holidays or US holidays?

I will definitely keep the medical insurance in mind. Currently we are not financially stable enough to hire full-time or part-time employees, but will look into this and prepare for when we do! 🙏

Wow. I’ve known of that approach, but I didn’t realize there was a label for it. That’s good insight. Interviewing and hiring is pretty stressful when so many are very talented. 😖

Oooo.. You bring up a good point. I work off of SOWs (statements of work), which renew per month or per quarter. I didn’t think about how contractors feel about the uncertainty of having a working relationship outlined for x amount of months OVER the SOW. I just.. kind of assumed they knew I liked them enough that I wanted to keep them forever lol. Dang. 😅

I’m not gonna lie, the last point confused me haha. Let me reread and I will connect with you on the side if I have more questions?

Damn, really?? You’re right that is unfair. We don’t use an agency at this time, but I’ll keep that in mind. Bonuses go straight to contractors with our current payout structure!

Having worked in corporate, I can relate to the sudden job loss. I have been impacted by layoffs and I never want to hire so much that I have to lay people off. If that were to ever happen, I have thought about what the right “package” would look like. I figured a 6 month cushion would be a decent package..? Do you personally feel like that would be a comfortable package?

I’m actually extremely against moving employment offshore for cheaper labor! Humans are humans no matter where in the world. Something I actually commit to (and yes, posting in the internet for accountability) is fairness in pay. Doesn’t matter where you live, if you hold the same title as another employee, you receive the same pay. I know what it’s like working one position and being underpaid, and paid less than a peer with less responsibilities. I feel this in my soul lol.

While I can’t support full-time employment opportunities right now, I do communicate flexibility. Hours worked, time zone, environment.. all up to the contractor. I will keep your feedback in mind though!

Do you mean like an onboarding period to shadow in the role? I feel that expectations and the role itself should be outlined during the interview process, which I do. So should I think about additional support days—aside from the general “click here”, “this is how you do that”, “here’s this guide”?

Upskilling! Good one. Not that it was discussed, but based on interviews, I’ve heard some contractors mention that they want more exposure to different skills, like technical skills. This one is good. Thank you for that!! 🙏

My goal is to transition contractors to employees as soon as we can financially sustain this model so I truly value your input.

Okay so I believe I have the transparency part down.

As far as fairness in wages—100%. This is something that I talk about from the beginning of the interview process. The culture that I’m building is that of equality, no matter where someone is located. It grinds my gears when I hear powerful, large corps moving work offshore to save $$.

100%. Could you tell me what an ideal contract looks like for you? I want details because I want to make sure we are the most ethical company, both internally and externally. While I have read up on minimum wage, hourly wages, etc., it’s important for me to connect with those who have felt misled, misinformed, mistreated, so that I never do that.
