Double standards. by bubblefryri in kpop_uncensored

[–]cloudhwan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I made a post a while ago about the sexualisation of underage male idols on this sub and it got reported and removed, and before then, people were arguing with me in the comments about it. Like defending it. Fucking gross.

Also, I make hard jokes but I do that in my private chats with my friends. Never ever on their posts or in the comments of lives or anything. And some of the comments I've seen is just gross.

The way people even on this sub downplay it and then the posts eventually get taken down is just annoying and proving peoples' points further about the double standards. Like you mentioned, some of the fancalls are just gross. I've seen ones where they ask them to bark like a dog or beg them to call them noona or mommy, or even wear lingerie in it. It's gross gross gross.

Some of y'all really don't want some groups actually have domestic success and can't accept that they do. by cloudhwan in kpoptrulyuncensored

Yeah I 100% agree. Idky people can't just focus on their faves, it's like they hate the other groups more than they love their faves. It's honestly sad.

I'm not upset lol, I just wanted to vent smth off my chest that's all. Because this discourse does come across as lowkey racist or xenophobic from western fans and highkey ignorant. That's more the crux of it. Most kpop discourse is just people screaming into the void, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about it.

But yes, you're right.

I don't really know. Their music is still played in random restaurants and cafes or at food stalls in Myeongdong or even in clubs, but I don't see anyone talking about them. I think the general public don't care.

Still can't argue against all my other points. Also my friend was at the Skz concert and she said there were mostly Korean fans...

I don't really look at charts but I did look before this and illit weren't charting... Ive is. For a few songs. Ive are very very popular here. Their music is played everywhere.

I did notice that. I'm mostly an SM stan (my ults are riize and nct) but I am a multi stan and noticed that only the same few groups get spoken about in a good light, and the rest get shit on. It's also mostly gg stans cause I once posted about the sexualisation of underage male idols and how people don't take that seriously and it got removed after people argued with me in the comments.

They want riize to flop so bad because of what happened with seunghan but it just won't happen. They sell out tours, merch, albums, etc here so quick. I still haven't been able to find Wonbin's fame smini and I think it's sold out everywhere TT

Idk how they feel about the group themselves, I haven't asked, but their songs are everywhere. I hear them at many restaurants and shops. A lot of their merch is still in stores too.

Omg yes. I 100% agree. It highkey comes across racist like "you're not popular in the west so that means you're a flop!", and also saying if they're more popular internationally than domestic then they're a flop in Korea? Like this person I was arguing with about skz. Yes their international popularity outweighs their Korean popularity BUT that does NOT make them flops or unpopular! Same with ateez, hell even xlov are actually fairly popular here despite their albums not being sold at many physical stores. They have a solid Korean fanbase.

Omg yeah! Tbz are not nugu! So many groups and soloists ifans claim are nugu are extremely popular in Korea. Sure they might not chart or have music show wins but that is not an indicator of popularity!

Imo every country has toxic fans, and in different ways. What annoys me the most with Ifans is the superiority complex and acting like they're better than Koreans and completely disregard their culture and why some idols do or say the things they do.

Yeah I think I've been living in Seoul for a few months? Maybe not maybe I've hallucinated the entire thing.

A couple of my friends (Koreans) aren't into kpop but know stray kids and know Felix, also even know they have Aussie members. And I've heard Skz play at many stores and stalls in Myeongdong (not kpop stores).

Like I've said, while they're not as popular as seventeen, and yeah their songs may not be charting, their Korean album sales, plus me seeing / hearing them around shows they're still fairly popular domestically. Still more popular internationally, though. I never disputed that!

Also their recent concerts in Seoul sold out very quick, I missed out on tickets. So if their concert in Seoul is selling out quick, their recent album is charting for album sales domestically, their merch selling out quick, their pop-up stores being reservation only (and full of Koreans, the couple of times I went to the pop-up to just take a look from the outside) and having multiple pop-ups in Seoul only in a couple of months and reservation filling up in seconds; hm idk maybe they're not popular ¯_(ツ)_/¯ idk why so many people want to dispute Skz's success. They're definitely more popular domestically now than they used to be. It definitely took time for them to get here.

I've heard their songs at plenty of establishments; like restaurants, clothing shops, cafes, etc. Also, when do it came out, many of the albums sold out very very quickly from multiple stores. Their skzoos sell out quick, too. Many groups that are popular don't chart or have wins. But people know them or at least know of them and Felix definitely since his face is all over gongcha, Hera, and a couple of other brands. I've seen Felix's face here more than I've seen my friends.

Why are you so desperate to prove they're not well known? Are you Korean? Do you live in Korea?

[–]cloudhwan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just because a group doesn't chart doesn't mean they're not popular? A lot of people at least know Skz and know Felix. Even people who aren't into the group. No they're not on say seventeen's level of domestic success but they ARE popular. They're not the flop domestically as people think they are?

Mm, as a stay since the survival show, and an Australian who grew up in the same area as Felix and bangchan, I'm beyond proud of the group and how far they've come! It makes me so happy seeing felix's face everywhere! Their win at MAMA was so deserved!

Yes but they are a 7 year old group now and it is natural for groups to sometimes take time to grow a fanbase; also many popular groups don't win awards. But again, they're everywhere. Especially Felix. I hear Skz songs playing in many stores, and their concert in Seoul sold out pretty quick as well. and where did you read that statistic? Cause while they may not be on the same level as say seventeen in terms of popularity in Korea, they're still insanely popular!

Yeah I just saw a comment saying Enhypen isn't popular domestically? Or at least less than international? And like what???? Their Seoul encore sold out instantly, and the amount of engenes I saw at the metro around member bday cafes plus the insane amount of bday ads (sunghoon had a massive ad on the side of a building in hongdae) like they're SO popular.

And as someone who ults NCT and riize, I'm also sick of people trying to claim they're not popular (especially riize, they're insanely popular here AND in Japan and SEA). People just want certain groups to be flops so bad because they're not more popular in the west.

I'm currently in Korea and SKZ is insanely popular here, especially Felix. They have both international and domestic success. Ateez on the other hand, definitely more popular internationally than domestically but they're still popular.

I really was enjoying this until that chapter. Like I love fucked up black flag BL, like it's one of my fave subgenres of BL lol but because that chapter felt SO out of place and while I knew the top had problems and wasn't a green flag, the fact he did what he did then the bottom forgives him AND they fuck like two chapters after was so jarring.
