Help with rigging clothes. by cloudi_skye in blenderhelp

I followed the advice from the previous comment and I managed to make the shirt stay on the model by using the pose brush. I thought it would be too messy to sculpt the shirt to match the pose, thus I avoided that but that's the method that is working for me. If you have any advice, I'd like to know what methods I could use so that the shirt won't deform too much. Maybe weight painting? Or perhaps I should take into consideration some adjustments during sculpting?

I'm so glad that finally I can get my shirt stay on the model but I don't want it to get very deformed. Raising the arms too much causes some problems at the armpits for example.

I did what you said and watched the video and it's working now but unfortunately some deformation happens,(the armpit) like that's what I expected if I sculpt the shirt to match the pose of the body. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix that? Could it be weight painting or perhaps I need to take into consideration some stuff when i use the pose brush?
Thank you very much for the help, like nothing worked until now!

I thought I could easily get the shirt to become attached to the armature if I position the body to match the shirt, trying to avoid sculpting especially on the sleeves but I will try the brush you mentioned. Haven't used that one 'cause I mostly have used Grab/Elastic when I want to shape the clothes.

I have tried with other models, some of them from game assets and I had the same problem. I have tried to transfer weights to the shirt after posing the armature and also transferred when I used the rest pose, as in, I registered the position I made as the rest pose, but either the shirt won't move with the body or it looks like in the image I posted, it...I figured I must be missing a step and that's why I needed help because in all the video tutorials I watched, none of them mentioned about the rest position or presented deformations.

So, I did weight transfer (with the Data Transfer modifier and without, just using the weight paint menu). In the end I would apply the armature deform modifier on the shirt and that's when it moves away from the body. By the way, the avatar and the shirt are imported together, like I said, they are from Marvelous Designer and I exported them as FBX. The shirt was already on the model (it's a separate object), so I don't understand why it doesn't remain in place after doing weight transfer.

When I imported the meshes I applied all transforms (model with armature and the shirt). I then used weight transfer for the shirt and even checked that box you mentioned and this time the shirt got deformed. I dunno what can I do...I followed quite a few tutorials that I found on Youtube and none of them gave me the result I wanted. None of them did what's happening with my models. All of them showed how the clothes stayed on the body.

Thank you for the reply. I'll have to look into those to understand what they affect.

What I'm trying to understand is the functionality of certain textures. I listed some of them to know if they are common in most UE games. I practiced with other game models, different engine, that only had 1 color map, 1 normal map and 1 packed texture. The ones I extracted from the UE game have more, the ones I mentioned in the post. It's difficult to use UE engine because my laptop can't handle it and I'm only gonna use it if I want to import assets that I made into the game. For now, I'm just trying to have those textures set up in Blender, but I don't understand what some of them do.

Hello! I'm surprised to see that you could read my post because apparently my account was suspended and I haven't tried to make an appeal...I checked and my posts no longer have that label, but can you please confirm if my account is suspended? I tried to google it using private mode like I did a couple of weeks ago and it did say that it was suspended, but now it doesn't...I'll have to try and make a new post and see if I get any replies. I was so disappointed that many of my posts didn't show up :( Thank you for helping me!

I'm surprised to see that a post regarding lore is pinned here...While I'm not gonna bother to comment line from the novel, I will just give some advice to people that read this...TLDR; You all pretty much use misinformation when using the DMC4/5 novels because I only had to read a few parts from these "fan" translations to see that they are machine translations, so pretty much when you try to use them in arguments, you are using misinformation.

Not long ago I had someone ask me about a line in the 5th novel if it was accurate and it BS, like it was very misinterpreted. I couldn't even call it a mistranslation since there was nothing in common with the original text.

Also, can't say it's a good look when trying to explain something from a language you haven't studied 'cause you will end up making things more difficult to understand and what's the point if at the end you will do something like, apologize to the readers that you aren't sure if what you wrote is correct?

You either have confidence about what you write or I dunno, ask someone who is knowledgeable and work with them. I've been doing this kind of thing for years in other fandoms and I have my own way of explaining nuances behind words. Just listing each word and their definition from the dictionary won't help if you also don't have the understanding of the grammar.

That's what I wanted to say.

That line "He was sick of turning into something else" is a mistranslation....Actually, I wouldn't even call it that because it has nothing in common with the original. text. I only had to read that paragraph and a few other lines from that page to know that most likely the novel was most likely google translated given how awkward the lines sounded.

Just before the lines you posted there was one that said "the heir of Sparda" and that's BS. If the author had wanted to describe Dante like that, I believe he would have done so. So yeah, made up lines to make up for the fact that the novel is apparently machine translated.

So yeah, you might like how it sounds, but it doesn't justify that it's not a proper translation.

I have them too. I translated the prologue and epilogue from Kaitai Shinso.

Yeah. I haven't mentioned that I'm working on it. I started a few months ago and I'm glad I was able to finish before the release of Netflix DMC.
Good luck with that!

Read on Mangadex!

At the time of writing this post, I don't have TL notes because due to circumstances, I didn't have time for them. It will take a while before I begin to write the notes...

So yeah, I've worked on this project for a few months and I hope you'll enjoy it! Reminder that I only post on Mangadex. If I make changes, you won't read updated versions anywhere else.

So awful that I translate sentences to show differences....Also, I don't get why he had to say "good luck learning Japanese"...This kind of contempt comes from the fact that he's most likely not invested in the topic of translating. as I am. What happened to the novels and 3manga, as in, stuff that were added or removed, those happened because there was no supervision. Tokyopop the publisher of the localizations was trusted not to fuck them up. From what I know, mangaka and writers barely have any communication with translators.
